About me and my therapy practice

I work on-line and specialize in long-term, in-depth work focusing on client's relationships with themselves and with others. I welcome clients who are at the beginning of this journey and would like to understand themselves and their relationships more fully as well as individuals who already have a sense of who they are through their own conversations, reading, study and relationships with others. Our primary starting point would be looking at how you treat yourself and identifying strengths as well as parts of yourself that you hold back and undermine you in relationships. We might work on aspects of the self that need to develop or strengthen as well as what may have been getting in the way of this, for example, undermining or critical thoughts or beliefs.

To achieve this, we would look together at patterns of relating in childhood, attachment styles and behaviours with key figures in your early life, paying close attention to the relational expectations you may have been left with which continue to impact you in your relationships today. For example, we might look at what expectations others had of you and how you responded to that, as these patterns may be continuing to play out in the present moment with different people in your life, both those from the past - your parents, siblings, etc. as well as your newer relationships such as your partners, colleagues, friends or children.

Here are some sample goals of therapy, if we were to work together:

- developing emotional fluency (understanding what you are feeling when you are feeling it and being able to communicate that clearly)

- advocating for your own needs in a healthy and productive way

- being more open and emotionally available in relationships

- shame reduction (shame is a learned response, one that often arises from our earliest relationships)

Practice description

The therapy would be conducted weekly, at the same time every week, and sessions are typically 50 minutes.

This type of therapy works best as a long term, open-ended engagement that means we continue to work together until you feel you have achieved what you need and are confident to move on. However, I offer a shorter version of this with a minimum number of 24 sessions; this period of time would allow us to focus on and complete an aspect of the work which we would agree on following an assessment.

My fees are £60 per session: I do offer concessionary rates, so please don't hesitate to ask.

I work Monday to Thursday 9am until 6.30pm. Please contact me for my current availability.

I identify as an ethical practitioner from a multi-heritage background which enables me to connect with people from multiple backgrounds with relative ease and also gives me an awareness of the emotional and psychological impact of experiences such as discrimination, feelings of being othered and/or considered less-than.

My first session

Your first session with me will be free of charge. The session will typically last 50 minutes to an hour and will give us an opportunity to see how we might work together. I will ask you questions about your history, background and current situation so that we can establish a context for the challenge you want to work on in the therapy. Equally importantly, this is an opportunity for you to ask any questions and voice any hopes and concerns you may have. There is no obligation to return and you are welcome to take your time to come to a decision about your next steps.
