Working Together

Therapy is a collaborative process.

Whilst I bring professional knowledge, experience and clinical expertise, you are the expert on your own life. Together, we will seek to understand your experiences, identify patterns, explore difficulties and work towards meaningful and lasting change.

We discuss your expectations and goals from therapy and of course, any concerns you may have and how ready you feel to engage in the process and create plan of action together.

There is no expectation to tell your whole story straight away. Therapy moves at your pace, and together we will create a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Each session builds on the last.

Our work is reviewed regularly to ensure that therapy continues to meet your needs and remains focused on your goals.

I do offer homework and it is upto you to complete it. The more a client puts in, the more they get out. Therapeutic homework is a tool we may use between sessions to help you get the most from your therapy.

I am committed to maintaining the same standard in safe, confidential and ethically grounded therapeutic environment, guided by the Ethical Framework of the BACP, together with current legal and professional standards.

My first session

Your Initial Consultation

Our work begins with a full 50 minute pre-booked and paid consultation (£150) via zoom from anywhere in the UK or Europe (using GMT) to explore why you are seeking therapy now.

This provides an opportunity for us to meet, discuss what has brought you to therapy and consider how I may be able to support you. During this time, you can ask any questions relevant to therapy and I'll be delighted to answer them.

The assessment is also an opportunity for you to decide whether I am the right therapist for you. It is important that you feel comfortable, respected and able to build trust within the therapeutic relationship.

During the assessment, I may ask questions about:

• Your current difficulties and what has prompted you to seek therapy.

• Your personal history and significant life experiences.

• Your physical and emotional wellbeing.

• Previous experiences of therapy or mental health support.

• Your relationships, work and support network.

• What you hope to achieve through therapy.

There are no right or wrong answers. You are welcome to share as much or as little as feels comfortable. Therapy develops at your pace.

Homework can take many forms, such as journalling, noticing patterns in thoughts or feelings, challenging old beliefs, trying new coping strategies, or reflecting on experiences.

It isn’t about pressure or tasks for the sake of tasks - it’s about giving you practical ways to reflect, practice, and integrate the insights we explore in our sessions into your everyday life.

Engaging with these activities between sessions helps you deepen self-awareness, track progress, and strengthen the changes you are working towards.

Think of therapy as an investment in yourself: the sessions provide guidance and support, and homework allows you to actively apply that learning in your life. Together, this combination helps you gain greater value from the time, energy, and financial commitment you are making to your wellbeing.
