About me and my therapy practice
I work from an integrative and relational perspective, drawing on Humanistic, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural approaches to offer therapy that is responsive to the individual rather than fitting people into a single model.
I believe that therapy begins with the relationship we build together. I aim to create a space where you can feel heard, understood and able to explore parts of yourself that may be difficult to express elsewhere. I work collaboratively, so rather than telling you what you should do, we can make sense of your experiences together and explore what feels meaningful and helpful for you.
My approach can involve looking at what is happening for you in the present, while also considering how your earlier experiences, relationships and patterns may have shaped the way you understand yourself and relate to others. Where appropriate, we can also explore thoughts, behaviours and coping strategies that may be contributing to difficulties in your life.
I work with a range of concerns, including anxiety, low mood, relationship difficulties, grief, self-esteem, life transitions and feeling overwhelmed or stuck. You do not need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. Sometimes simply having a place to slow down and understand what is happening can be an important starting point.
I see therapy as a process of developing greater understanding, self-awareness and choice. My role is to walk alongside you, offering curiosity, challenge and support while respecting your autonomy and the pace at which you are comfortable working.
Whether you are seeking support through a particular difficulty or simply feel that something in your life needs to change, I hope to provide a safe space where you can be yourself without judgement.
Practice description
You can expect our sessions to be a space where you can slow down and talk about what is really going on for you. You do not need to know exactly what you want to say, and you do not need to have everything figured out before you come. We can start with whatever feels important to you that day.
I will take the time to listen and understand your experience, without judging you or making assumptions about what you should be feeling or doing. I will not tell you what choices to make. Instead, we can think things through together and explore what feels right and meaningful for you.
Sometimes I may ask questions that encourage you to look at something differently, or gently challenge a thought or pattern that may be keeping you stuck. At other times, you may simply need someone to listen and be alongside you. We can find that balance together, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
I also want therapy to feel like a human relationship. There may be difficult conversations and emotional moments, but there can also be warmth, humour and laughter. You can bring the messy, complicated or difficult-to-explain parts of yourself into the room. You do not need to edit yourself for me.
I hope that, over time, our work together can help you understand yourself a little more clearly – your feelings, your relationships, your choices and the things you may find yourself repeating. From there, we can explore what you want to do differently, what you want to hold onto, and what might help you feel more comfortable being yourself.
I will always respect that this is your therapy. You can tell me when something does not feel helpful, ask questions, disagree with me or change direction. We will work things out together.
