About me and my therapy practice
A place to talk, understand and find a way forward:
I'm Jane, an integrative counsellor working with adults and teenagers. My approach is warm, collaborative and led by you. The relationship we build is an important part of how I work. Together, we can explore what's happening for you, understand where some of your feelings or patterns may come from, and consider what might help you move forward.
People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons. You may be going through an incredibly difficult time, or feeling anxious, overwhelmed, unhappy or stuck. Or there may be no obvious crisis – you may simply want to understand yourself better, make sense of something in your life or have a space to talk. You don't need to know exactly what's wrong or what you want to change. We can start wherever you are.
I welcome clients of all backgrounds, sexualities and gender identities, and aim to offer a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself.
We can explore:
Anxiety, worry and overwhelm
Relationships and family difficulties
Confidence and self-esteem
Loss, change and life transitions
The impact of past experiences or trauma
Neurodiversity and feeling different or misunderstood
Difficult emotions or repeating patterns
Feeling stuck or wanting something to change
Practice description
What counselling with me is like:
As an integrative counsellor, I don't believe one approach suits everyone. I adapt the way I work to you and what you need from counselling.
Sometimes having the space to talk openly and feel genuinely heard can make an enormous difference. At other times, we might look more closely at earlier experiences, relationships or patterns in your life and how they may be affecting you now. Where helpful, we can also explore practical ways of managing difficult thoughts, feelings or situations.
Counselling isn't about me telling you what you should do. I won't push you to talk about something before you're ready, and there's no expectation that you arrive knowing exactly what to say. Some sessions may feel reflective, others more practical – we'll find a way of working that feels right for you.
Practical details:
Sessions are 50 minutes and cost £70. They can be online or face-to-face in Horsmonden, rural West Kent
My first session
Making the first contact with a counsellor can sometimes feel like a big step, so there's no pressure to commit before we've had a chance to speak.
I offer a free 15-minute introductory call where you can tell me briefly what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions and get a sense of whether you feel I might be the right counsellor for you.
If you decide you'd like to go ahead, we'll arrange your first 50-minute session. This is an opportunity for us to explore in a little more detail what's been happening for you, what you would like help with and what you hope might change.
There isn't a test or a "right" way to do your first counselling session, and you don't need to prepare what you're going to say. We'll take things at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
We'll also talk through how we would work together, including confidentiality and practical arrangements, and you'll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
You can book either a free 15-minute introductory call or a first session on my website.
