Availability
I currently have availability for new clients looking for counselling in Eastbourne, Pevensey, Hankham and the surrounding East Sussex area.
I offer face-to-face counselling from Calm Journey Therapy in Hankham, near Eastbourne, as well as online counselling and telephone counselling for clients across the UK.
My usual working days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with daytime and some evening counselling appointments available.
I work with adults aged 18+ and understand that finding time for therapy around work, family and everyday life isn't always easy. Where possible, I aim to offer flexibility with appointments.
If you're looking for a counsellor or therapist in Eastbourne or East Sussex, or would prefer the flexibility of online counselling, you're welcome to get in touch to discuss my current availability.
I also offer a free 10–15 minute initial telephone call, giving you the opportunity to ask questions, tell me a little about what you're looking for and see whether I might be the right counsellor for you.
About me and my therapy practice
About me and my therapy practice
You don't have to be good at therapy.
You don't need to know where to start. You don't need the right words. You don't even need to know exactly why you're struggling. You can turn up confused, overwhelmed, angry, anxious, grieving, exhausted or simply knowing that something doesn't feel right.
We'll start there.
I'm a person-centred counsellor based near Eastbourne, and the way I work is probably best described as human. I'm warm, down-to-earth and genuinely curious about the person sitting in front of me. There are no clipboards, no judgement and no expectation that you leave parts of yourself at the door.
Therapy with me can include tears, silence, laughter and occasionally swearing. You don't have to present a polished version of yourself here.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, work stress, health challenges, identity and those times in life when everything simply feels too much.
I'm particularly passionate about neurodivergent-affirming counselling and working with autistic and ADHD clients. I don't believe there's one "right" way to engage with therapy. You might need to move, doodle, avoid eye contact, sit differently, use humour or take time to find your words. That's OK. Therapy should adapt to the person, not the other way around.
I won't tell you how to live your life. My role is to walk alongside you while we make sense of what's happening and help you reconnect with your own voice.
I offer face-to-face counselling near Eastbourne, Pevensey and surrounding East Sussex, alongside online and telephone counselling.
Come as you are. We'll work out the rest together.
Practice description
For me, therapy is about relationship first.
I'm not a therapist who sits silently behind a professional mask, occasionally nodding while you wonder what I'm thinking. If we're going to do meaningful work together, I believe you need to feel that there's a real human being sitting opposite you.
So yes, I'll probably take my shoes off.
I'll laugh with you. I'll sit with you when things hurt. I may self-disclose when I genuinely believe it could help you. If something deserves celebrating, we'll celebrate it. And if you swear, you certainly don't need to apologise to me.
That doesn't mean there aren't professional boundaries. There absolutely are. It means I believe therapy can be ethical, professional and still deeply human.
As a person-centred counsellor, our relationship sits at the heart of the work. I won't position myself as the expert on your life. You're the person who has lived it. My role is to get alongside you, understand your world as closely as I can and create the kind of relationship where you feel able to explore the parts of yourself that perhaps haven't had much space before.
I'm also a neurodivergent-affirming therapist, so there's no expectation to "look" like you're doing therapy properly. Avoid eye contact. Fidget. Curl up in the chair. Doodle. Take your shoes off too. Laugh at inappropriate moments. Lose your train of thought. Bring notes because your mind went blank the second you walked through the door.
You don't have to perform in my therapy room.
Some sessions might feel profound. Some might be messy. Some might contain tears and laughter within five minutes of each other.
That's therapy.
And through all of it, we'll figure things out together.
My first session
First sessions can look completely different for everyone, because we're all different.
Some people come in, sit down and start talking straight away. Some arrive with a list of things they've been waiting to say. Others have lots of questions. And some sit down and say, "I don't actually know why I'm here."
All of those are completely OK.
You might even want to know about the beautiful setting we're sitting in. Peelings Manor Barn is steeped in history, so if that's where our conversation starts, that's where it starts.
There's no right or wrong way to begin.
I'll share a little about myself, how I work and what you can expect from our sessions. There will also be plenty of opportunity for you to ask me questions, if you have any.
You don't need to arrive prepared. You don't need to have your story neatly organised, know exactly what you want from counselling or tell me everything in the first session.
We'll go at your pace.
For me, the relationship we build is an important part of therapy, and that begins with two people simply getting to know each other.
Whether you come for one session or choose to continue for longer is completely your choice. There's no expectation to commit to a certain number of sessions, and you're always in control of your therapeutic journey.
There are a few practical things we'll need to cover, but beyond that, this is your space.
No perfect first session. No right way to "do" therapy. No pressure.
Just therapy tailored to you.
