About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Demelza Honeyborne, a qualified Humanistic Integrative Counsellor with a BSc in Psychology in Practice and an MSc in Health and Clinical Psychology. I have a particular interest in trauma, emotional wellbeing, identity and the ways our experiences can shape how we see ourselves and relate to others.
As a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, adapting our work to your individual needs, experiences and goals. I believe there is no “one size fits all” approach to counselling. You are the expert in your own life, and my role is to work alongside you with empathy, respect and curiosity.
I have a particular interest in trauma and understand that difficult experiences can continue to affect our emotions, relationships, sense of self and wellbeing long after they have happened. We can explore these experiences at a pace that feels safe and manageable for you, without rushing or judgement.
I welcome clients of all ages, backgrounds, identities and life experiences. I have a particular interest in supporting clients from African, Caribbean and other ethnic minority backgrounds. I recognise the impact that culture, racism, discrimination, marginalisation and intergenerational experiences can have on emotional wellbeing and identity. I aim to provide a culturally sensitive space where you can explore your experiences without feeling that you need to explain or justify who you are.
Practice description
Our work may be short- or long-term, depending on your needs. Most importantly, we will work together at your pace, with your goals at the heart of the process. I offer flexible 50-minute sessions to fit your schedule.
I aim to provide a warm, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can feel heard, understood and able to explore whatever has brought you to counselling. We can work together to make sense of your experiences, develop greater self-awareness and consider ways forward that feel right for you.
Whether you are experiencing a particular difficulty, going through a period of change, or feel that something needs to be different, you don't have to have all the answers before we begin. Our sessions will be collaborative, and we will focus on what feels most important to you.
My first session
The first session will be 30 minutes and will involve an initial assessment and contracting. This allows us to discuss what brought you to counselling, your needs and expectations, and whether we can work together safely and effectively.
