About me and my therapy practice
Life can be really hard; you don't have to do it alone. Are you feeling lost, anxious, sad, or depressed, or do you have a sense that something isn't right and you aren't sure why? Talking about it with me may help.
Are you feeling misunderstood or worn down from trying to fit in, feeling too much or not enough and maybe struggling in your personal or working relationships?
Or are you experiencing disappointment and loss or bereavement, which leaves you feeling numb, angry, guilty or exhausted?
Whatever has happened or is happening, I will listen to you so you can explore your feelings and, alongside you, better understand yourself and remove obstacles that are getting in your way.
I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor who has walked through the triumphs and heartaches of life, which has motivated me to accompany others. My journey includes being a full-time mum and carer, often within a hospital setting. I was diagnosed with ADHD later in life, and I parent two children, both of whom are neurodivergent. I have been a teacher, foster carer, and, for the past 4 years, a counsellor.
All of the above means I am passionate about striving for neurodivergent-affirming, anti-ableist and anti-oppressive practice.
Practice description
Whatever motivates you to seek a counsellor right now, I will meet you with compassion and non-judgement. There is no right or wrong way to show up in therapy. I will go at your pace and direction, integrating a range of counselling, based on what I believe will be best for you, involving you in this process as we go along.
I am invested in our relationship and believe that as this evolves, it may help you gain deeper insights into the relationships outside our sessions. I believe that therapy needs to be tailored to each client, as each is unique, and this underpins how I will approach working with you: taking time to check in on what is helpful or not, and making adjustments and adaptations as we go along. This space is for you!
My Training and background...
I hold a Master's Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Level 3 Counselling Diploma.
Before training as a counsellor, I volunteered for Mindline as a call handler and trained with Cruse to offer bereavement support.
I am a qualified and experienced teacher, and have also been a Foster Carer, so I have an understanding of the education and care systems.
I have an in-depth understanding of Body-focused repetitive behaviours (BFRBs), which include chronic nail biting, skin picking or hair-pulling, all of which have overlaps with ADHD and Autism.
I have lived experience of chronic hair-pulling (trichotillomania).
Sessions
Sessions are 50 minutes, usually weekly and cost £60 or £75 if fortnightly works better for you. Fees are payable in advance.
I keep two slots reserved at any given time for concessionary rates of £50. There may be a waiting list for these.
Disabled access:
My Therapy room in Hutton is on the ground floor, with toilet facilities, both wheelchair accessible. It is an air-conditioned room with direct entry via a side door, which respects your privacy.
Client car parking is always available on the driveway at the front of the property.
My first session
I understand that it can feel daunting to begin counselling, so please do get in touch if you are considering working with me via email, text message, or by arranging a phone call, before booking a session, if that is helpful.

If you book a first session with me, I will aim to put you at ease, and we will have a chance to get to know one another, ask each other questions, plan how we might work together, and for you to decide whether I am a good fit for you.

About me and my therapy practice
Life can be hard; and you don't have to navigate it alone. Are you feeling lost, anxious or sad, depressed, or have a sense that something isn't right and you aren't sure why? Talking about it with me may help.
Are you feeling misunderstood or worn down from trying to fit in, feeling too much or not enough and maybe struggling in your personal or working relationships?
Or are you experiencing disappointment and loss or bereavement, which leaves you feeling numb, angry, guilty or exhausted?
Whatever has happened or is happening, I will listen to you so you can explore your feelings and, alongside you, better understand yourself and remove obstacles that are getting in your way.
My own life experiences and personal therapy inspired me to train as a psychotherapeutic counsellor, so I can support you in giving yourself the time and attention you deserve. I have both lived and professional experience of supporting others who are diagnosed or curious about Autism, ADHD, or both. I have specialist experience of chronic hair-pulling (trichotillomania) and skin-picking (dermatillomania), currently categorised as OCD's.
Along with often working with clients who are neurodivergent or feel "othered" in some way, I also work with clients experiencing trauma, emotional abuse, relational difficulties, divorce, bereavement or loss of any kind, low confidence and self-esteem, difficulties with emotional regulation, social anxiety and deep-rooted shame.
I welcome people from all genders, sexualities, places of birth and spiritualities. I strive to work on internalised ableism and am a firm ally of those from LGBTQIA +-, wherever they are on their journey. I am passionate about continually evolving how I can create a Neurodivergent affirming space for my clients and will always be open to feedback.
Practice description
Whatever motivates you to seek a counsellor right now, I will meet you with compassion and non-judgment. There is no right or wrong way to show up in therapy. I am trauma-informed, which means I work somatically and listen to what your nervous system may be communicating, as well as your words, to make sure the work is safe, as I follow your pace and direction. I work by integrating a range of counselling approaches, based on what I believe will be best for you, involving you in this process as we go along.
I often integrate IFS-informed parts work with the person-centred, psychodynamic, and Gestalt approaches I trained in during my Master's degree. I also draw upon creative tools such as sand-tray and visuals. But my style and approach will be very much based on what you want and need from counselling, weaving in what feels right for you. I am invested in our relationship and believe that as this evolves, it may help you gain deeper insights into the relationships outside our sessions.
You can bring all your different parts to therapy, including the ones you have been taught you need to hide, you can swear, laugh, cry, sit in silence, or not know what you want or need; all parts of you are welcome, and I will give each one the time and space they deserve.
My Training and background...
Master's Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy (Adults)
Counselling Children and Young People Certificate
Counselling Skills Diploma
Mindline Listener
Cruse Bereavement Volunteer
Before counselling, I worked as a teacher and tutor for young people with special educational needs and disabilities, and as a foster carer for young people with medical needs and disabilities. I have extensive experience adapting to a wide range of needs, focusing on inclusion.
Please ask if you would like more information or evidence regarding my qualifications, or a list of the courses and training I have completed for my continual professional development (CPD).
My first session
I understand that it can feel daunting to begin counselling. I am very empathetic to the difficulties people often face just trying to cope with their lives and relationships. It can be a huge relief just to be able to speak to someone who understands and can accept these thoughts and feelings. I'll aim to put you at ease,
Please do get in touch if you are considering working with me via email, text message, or by arranging a phone call, before booking a session, if that is helpful. You can ask questions and explore what you want and need from counselling, and I will be as honest and open with you as I can. We can plan how we might work together, and for you to decide whether I am a good fit for you.
I work with clients both long-term and short-term, and will regularly review with you how you feel about counselling, with no judgement or pressure from me.
