About me and my therapy practice

You may be used to being the capable one—the person who copes, takes responsibility and keeps everything going. From the outside, you might appear to be managing well, while privately feeling anxious, emotionally exhausted or increasingly disconnected from yourself.

Perhaps you find it difficult to ask for help or even to recognise what you need. You may be struggling with relationships, low self-esteem or a persistent feeling that something is not quite right. Sometimes there is no obvious crisis. You simply know that the ways you have learned to cope are no longer working as well as they once did.

I am a qualified relational psychodynamic counsellor and a Registered Member of the ±«ÓãÊÓƵ I work with adults and offer face-to-face counselling in central Loughton, as well as online counselling across the UK.

Psychodynamic counselling can help you understand how earlier experiences and relationships may continue to shape the way you feel, relate to others and respond to difficulties today. This does not mean focusing only on the past. It means becoming curious about the patterns that may be influencing your present life, including those that are difficult to recognise on your own.

The relationship between us is an important part of the therapy. I will listen carefully, think alongside you and gently draw attention to patterns or feelings that emerge in our work.

I will not tell you what to do or offer quick solutions. Instead, we will work together to help you understand yourself more deeply, so that you can begin to feel less governed by familiar patterns and more able to make choices that feel right for you.

Practice description

I work with adults experiencing anxiety, low mood, emotional exhaustion, low self-esteem, bereavement and loss, relationship difficulties and work-related stress.

You do not need to have a diagnosis or be able to explain exactly what is wrong. You may simply know that you are struggling, repeating patterns you do not fully understand or living in a way that no longer feels sustainable.

My approach is relational and psychodynamic. This means we will explore what is happening in your life now while also considering how your earlier experiences may have shaped your feelings, relationships and ways of coping.

I offer open-ended counselling, with sessions ordinarily taking place at the same time each week. This regularity provides the consistency needed for trust and deeper therapeutic work to develop.

I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I work in accordance with the ±«ÓãÊÓƵEthical Framework and undertake regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development.

Face-to-face sessions are held in a private therapy room in central Loughton, close to Loughton Underground station. I also offer online sessions throughout the UK.

Sessions last 50 minutes and cost £70.

My first session

Finding the right counsellor is important, so I offer a free 15-minute introductory telephone call before you decide whether to arrange an appointment.

This gives you an opportunity to tell me briefly what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions and get an initial sense of whether you might feel comfortable talking with me.

If we decide to proceed, we will arrange a 60-minute assessment session. This gives us more time to explore what is happening for you, some of your relevant personal history and what you hope counselling might offer. It is also an opportunity for us both to consider whether my way of working is suitable for your needs.

You do not need to prepare anything or arrive with a clear account of what is wrong. We can begin with whatever feels most important—or most possible—to talk about.

The assessment session costs £80. If we agree to work together, subsequent 50-minute sessions cost £70 and ordinarily take place weekly at an agreed regular time.
