About me and my therapy practice
I provide a quiet space, just for you, where my aim is to build a warm, respectful and trusting relationship between us. First and foremost I will listen, patiently without judgement. Each client is unique so counselling will be tailored to you and what you need.
You can talk about how you’re feeling, how your situation is affecting you and what you need help with. Sometimes it’s hard to know what you need or to make sense of your emotions, so I’ll help you untangle the confusion, support you as you try to make some sense from it all, help you to understand what you might need and start taking steps towards feeling better about yourself and your life.
How we perceive others and behave in all kinds of relationships affects our view of ourselves, others and the world around us and can often leave us feeling critical of ourselves. By creating a healthy, respectful and trusting relationship between us, I can explore your world with you, support you to grow, create change within yourself and help you change the way you view yourself and others around you. Together we might explore feelings, past and current relationships, how you see yourself and why that might be.
Being a counsellor isn’t about giving advice or having all the answers. I strongly believe that you know more about yourself than you realise, and I will work with you to explore and understand yourself better, gain clarity and make sense of your experiences. I can help you build confidence, resilience and we can work together to start the process of growth and healing from whatever it is that’s affecting you right now.
Practice description
I welcome and work with any adults over 18, in person and online.
Sometimes clients come to me feeling lost or stuck with how to move forward. Perhaps feelings of anxiety or overwhelm are affecting your daily life and holding you back. Maybe you’re spending your days feeling worried, on edge, hopeless or depressed but pretend to others you’re fine. You might be waking up every day feeling lonely, lost or sad after some sort of loss, or maybe no matter how hard you try personal or work relationships seem like such a struggle and you get frustrated and angry. You might know deep down something isn't quite right but you can’t put your finger on it. I can help you explore whatever feelings or situations you find yourself with, leading to more understanding of yourself and how how you can create change, move forward and feel better about life.
Emotions can leave us feeling confused and sometimes it’s hard to understand why you feel the way you do right now, and that’s ok. These are all things that I can help you start to make sense of. I’ll listen without judgement, hear what it’s like for you, and we’ll explore your feelings and situation together. I can support you in finding ways to feel better about yourself, feel less stuck, gain confidence and resilience. Sometimes just sharing what you’re going through can feel like a weight’s been lifted from your shoulders.
I have special interest in supporting adults to work through traumatic relationship and childhood experiences including:
• Emotional, physical and sexual abuse
• Parental separation or divorce
• Family estrangement
• Loss of any kind and related grief
I offer 50 minute weekly sessions. Most clients find weekly sessions beneficial, especially in the early stages, however frequency can be agreed based on your circumstances.
I work to and abide by the BACP's Ethical Framework. I attend regular supervision and engage in ongoing professional development, both of which support and enhance my practice.
My first session
During our first session I may ask you some questions to find out a little more about you and to establish if working together is appropriate for us both. I will also provide an opportunity for you to share what it is that's brought you to counselling and what you need from our sessions. Don't worry if you feel unsure about this as it will be very much about exploring together what you might need and talking more about how we can work on this together.
There's no pressure to return or agree to a certain number of sessions. If we decide to work together we can agree on how many sessions seem appropriate for you, and review this as time goes on.
If you'd like to book a free, no obligation 15 minute call initially to ask any questions, to get a feel for me and whether you think I'm the right fit for you then please use the enquiry form or call me. I'll aim to get back to you within 48hrs.
