About me and my therapy practice
Are you struggling with anxiety, depression or low self-esteem? Maybe you are experiencing difficulties with a particularly stressful relationship and don't know where to begin to make it right. Perhaps you are feeling disconnected and have lost sight of your Self. Have you been told you鈥檙e 鈥too much' when you don鈥檛 feel seen, valued or enough?
Hi I'm Siobhan, an experienced 鲍鱼视频registered therapist based in Norwood Junction and online. Many of the *people I work with have spent years people pleasing, hiding how they feel or not knowing how to trust their instinct. Often there鈥檚 a history of emotional neglect, difficult relationship dynamics, and unprocessed trauma. If this resonates, It's no wonder you are anxious and overthinking, or unsure of who you are beneath all the roles you play.
I'm a regular human first: I love music, films, art, reading and I鈥檓 mad about dogs. I鈥檓 also in therapy myself.
I was a key stage co-ordinator for many years and that's why I especially understand the pressures you may be feeling around results time right now; I didn't know which way was up at some points.
Those experiences shape the way I work today and I鈥檓 passionate about the benefits of therapy and how it can change lives.
I also bring many years of experience supporting people in 12 step recovery so if you're struggling with that pain and shame: I see you, and I provide the space to explore these struggles.
I鈥檓 not what you may think of as "typical therapist.鈥 I'm down to earth with a sense of humour, and I really try to make my therapeutic environment as relaxed as possible. You don鈥檛 have to censor your words, hide your feelings, or hold back your humour or anger. You can kick your shoes off and relax; clients often say what a relief it is to feel comfortable enough to be themselves with me.
Practice description
I offer sessions both in person in SE25 and online to anywhere within the UK making it convenient to fit around your life schedule.
I support people from a wide range of backgrounds and with many different challenges, including:
- Anxiety and Depression
- Low mood or motivation
- Low self-esteem and self-worth
- Trauma
- Addiction and recovery
- Relationship difficulties
- Grief, loss and life transitions
Being a registered member of the British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) means I adhere to its framework, and demonstrates that I meet the high standards of proficiency, professionalism and ethical practice that you deserve.
This is a collaborative process, but my practice is grounded in a person-centred approach which means you are front and centre to the work. I will do my best to ensure that we establish a trusting and relaxed relationship from the beginning.
In our sessions, we'll take time to understand your relationship patterns - how they鈥檝e protected you, and how they might now be keeping you stuck. . I won鈥檛 be regurgitating so-called 'self-help gurus' and I'm allergic to buzzword phrases such as 鈥榯hink positively' or 鈥榣et them.' (Ugh)...
Sometimes we may get creative if that is more your thing. Drawing, cards, stones, symbols and fairy tales can all help with the unconscious process, and are especially good when finding words alone are difficult. We may also ground ourselves using techniques to help with regulating our nervous systems. Essentially though, I tailor the therapy to your needs; you are front and centre of this process at all times.
If you are thinking about therapy, or have any questions, I invite you to get in touch for a free 15 minute informal chat. This gives you the opportunity to tell me a bit about what you would like to get from therapy and ask any questions you may have. If we think we might be a good fit we can arrange a full session and take things from there.
My first session
First sessions are often nerve-wracking; especially if you are new to therapy. I will do my best to put you at ease, and make you feel as comfortable as possible.
We meet at an agreed time each week either in person in SE25 or online anywhere in the UK for 50 mins. During the initial session, we will briefly agree on what we can expect from each other, and I will ask you some questions about your background. This is to give me a broader sense of your concerns and what you hope to gain from therapy. From there, the form-filling can be put to one side and you will have the opportunity to explore in detail whatever it is that is concerning you in much more depth.
Your autonomy is important to me, so we will work at your pace; there is no pressure to talk about anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. My hope is that together, we can co-create a relationship where you feel trusting enough to come as you are. If you're angry, upset, scared, mistrusting - all emotions are welcome with me. You don't need to censor yourself or put on any airs or graces; if you're sweary, it's all good - just be yourself. I create a calming environment where you feel able to unpick difficult thoughts and emotions.
Maybe you have specific issues and a definite idea of what you want to gain from our time - maybe you don't. Very often other 'stuff' comes out of nowhere; it's all part of the process.
*I am committed to ensuring my space is an inclusive, anti-oppressive environment and I warmly welcome everyone regardless of gender; belief; age; background; identity; cultural heritage and ability.
What I can help with
