About me and my therapy practice
Life is full of surprises, situations and challenges that can keep us awake at night. Losing a loved one, changing jobs (or being stuck in one), separations and arguments are typical of sudden pressures we might face.
Then there are slow realisations that cast a lengthening shadow. A relationship no longer works. You can’t get motivated. You feel unloved, unhappy, alienated, worthless. Maybe you find yourself friendless, or simply come to understand that you haven’t felt truly at peace for a long time.
There’s no right or wrong way to deal with the world we live in. It’s natural to have complex and conflicting emotions about our siblings, parents, friends and partners. Life’s milestones such as marriage, parenthood, retirement, bereavement or divorce can cause us to question ourselves. Sometimes it all gets too much, and we are overwhelmed.
If you find yourself unable to adapt to changing circumstances, or simply stuck in old patterns of thinking and behaviours, therapy can help by bringing new perspectives to your own efforts to understand yourself.
My approach is pluralistic, drawing on Gestalt, Person-Centred and Existential schools of therapy to help you untangle the emotional patterns that may be holding you back. We will use creative approaches to illuminate dark corners and give you safe space for discovery. I will gently challenge you, working with you to comprehend your difficulties, reframe your story and formulate a way forward.
Gently and kindly, I will help you to accept yourself, come to terms with the world, and move towards healing and happiness. We will have an open conversation to which you can bring whatever seems important. And we’ll hold it in a welcoming, confidential and safe space where you can talk about it all with complete freedom and honesty.
Practice description
As an older male therapist, I offer a different dynamic - calm, mature, intelligent, culturally engaged, and genuinely curious about both your pain and your potential. My 63 years of living through life’s ups and downs (raising a family, career highs and lows, success and failure, love and loss) have built a genuine appreciation of life's complexities.
I won’t give you textbook responses or hollow affirmations. Instead, I will meet you wherever you are, with compassion and without judgment. I never forget that you are the expert on your own life, respecting who you are and where you come from.
I work with the whole you: not just your symptoms or problems, but the unique person behind them. Each encounter is a unique exploration between us; threaded together, our sessions allow new questions and answers to emerge. Together, we'll find out what's going on beneath the surface and explore the deeper currents that bring you discomfort.
I work with adults of all ages. Sessions last 50 minutes and are best scheduled weekly. I provide both short-term focused work (6-12 sessions) and longer-term explorative therapy.
Sessions are available online via secure video link or in person at my practice in Oxford.
I maintain full professional insurance and receive regular clinical supervision as required by ±«ÓãÊÓƵstandards.
My fees reflect the value of an experienced, qualified practitioner while remaining accessible. Payment options and cancellation policy will be discussed during our initial conversation.
My first session
I invite you to a book a free initial video consultation (15 minutes) to discuss your needs and see if we’re a good match. This gives you a chance to get a sense of my approach before committing to ongoing work.
Ahead of our first meeting I will ask you to complete a short form and to read our counselling agreement. The first 15 minutes or so of our first session will deal with this, any questions you may have and some other basic admin.
Then our conversation will begin.
