About me and my therapy practice
I offer counselling for individuals struggling with compulsive behaviours. Whether it's substances, alcohol, pornography, work, or other patterns that feel out of control, I provide a confidential, non-judgemental space to explore what’s happening and begin the process of change.
These patterns can be deeply isolating and are often accompanied by shame, anxiety, low self-worth, or difficulties in relationships. My approach is person-centred, trauma-informed, and grounded in both lived experience and professional training.
While I have a particular interest in addiction and recovery, I also work with a wide range of related issues including anxiety, stress, burnout, depression, grief, identity concerns, and life transitions. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply in need of someone to talk to, I’m here to help.
Practice description
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, holding a Postgraduate Qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Cumbria—an accredited training provider. Before establishing my private practice, I worked as a counsellor in colleges and recovery centres. I currently provide counselling for Red Rose Recovery, Kendal College, and Physicians Anonymous—a peer-support network for doctors facing burnout, stress, and related challenges.

People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes there's a sense of sadness, confusion, or feeling stuck without a clear cause. At other times, it’s the weight of anxiety, grief, trauma, or relationship difficulties that becomes too much to manage alone. Life transitions—whether chosen or unexpected—can also leave us feeling unmoored. Reaching out for support takes real courage, especially when it means speaking thoughts or feelings that may never have been shared before.
Often, we find ourselves caught in patterns that repeat—frustrating, sometimes painful cycles that feel impossible to break. The substances or behaviours we turn to for relief are rarely the full story. While setting boundaries or maybe working toward abstinence is important, our work together can gently explore what lies beneath: the emotions, beliefs, and experiences that shape your responses to life.
Change rarely happens in a straight line. It takes time, and it’s understandable that what we’re doing—even if it's harmful—might bring temporary comfort, escape, or relief. That truth needs space and respect. In therapy, we move at your pace, creating a safe and non-judgemental space to understand yourself more deeply and gradually build the bridge between where you are and where you hope to be.
