I offer online and face to face appointments from 10am to 7pm Monday to Friday. My usual fee is 拢80 per 50 minute session for online work. For face to face work in Uxbridge, my fee is 拢95 per session, as this includes room hire.
These fees allow me to keep my caseload small and to invest in ongoing training and supervision, so that your child gets my full attention and the best possible support.
About me and my therapy practice
Before training as a therapist, I spent over 20 years in education, first as a teacher and later as a SENDCo. That means I have sat in the classrooms, the meetings and the annual reviews. I know what school feels like from the inside, and I know how exhausting it can be for a young person who is struggling to be understood there.
I work integratively, which means I draw on different approaches and shape the work around the young person in front of me rather than fitting them to a method. Depending on age and need, that might involve talking, creative work, worksheets, or simply having a space where nothing is expected of them for fifty minutes.
My particular areas are trauma, neurodivergence and SEND. I work with young people who are anxious, low, angry, shut down, or struggling with school. Many of the young people I see are autistic or have ADHD, or are waiting on an assessment, and I am comfortable working in ways that suit how they think rather than expecting them to mask.
I hold a specialist post-qualifying Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People, and I am a registered member of the 鲍鱼视频working within their ethical framework. I have safeguarding lead training and I work under regular clinical supervision.
Parents and carers are part of the picture, particularly with younger children, and I will always be clear with you about how that works and what stays private between me and your child.
I offer sessions in person in Uxbridge and online.
Practice description
I see young people aged 9 to 18, in person in Uxbridge and online across the UK.
Sessions are fifty minutes, usually weekly at the same time each week. Consistency matters, particularly for young people who have had a lot of unpredictability, so I try hard to protect a regular slot.
What sessions look like depends a lot on age. With younger children, the work tends to be more creative and less directly conversational. Older teenagers often want to talk, or sometimes want to sit quietly and not be asked anything for a while, which is also allowed. I do not push.
Before we begin, I meet with the parent or carer, usually online and without the young person present, to hear the background and the concerns. I then meet the young person separately for our first session. There is a written agreement covering confidentiality, safeguarding and practical arrangements, which we go through together so everyone knows where they stand.
On confidentiality, what a young person tells me stays between us, with the exception of any concern that they or someone else may be at risk of serious harm. I explain that clearly to them at the start, in language that makes sense for their age, so it is never a surprise later.
Fees are 拢95 for in person sessions in Uxbridge and 拢80 for online sessions. I hold a small number of reduced fee places for people who are unemployed or on benefits, so do ask if cost is a barrier.
I am not a crisis service. If a young person needs urgent help, Childline is 0800 1111, Papyrus HOPELINE is 0800 068 4141, and Samaritans is 116 123. NHS 111 and A&E are there in an emergency.
I am fully insured for work with children and young people and I hold an enhanced DBS check.
My first session
I offer a free 20 minute clarity call to parents and carers. If we decide to go ahead, I also offer a 50 minute session with parents/carers at the beginning, at my standard rate, to give me space to hear your child's history, the worries and what you are hoping might change. It also gives you a chance to ask me anything before committing.
The first session with the young person is deliberately low pressure. I do not open with a list of questions about the hardest thing in their life. Mostly, I want them to get a sense of who I am and that I'm a safe adult. If they want to talk, we talk. If they want to draw, or tell me about something entirely unrelated, that is a perfectly good start.
We also go through their own version of the agreement together, in plain language, so they understand what is private and what I would have to pass on.
Many young people arrive because an adult has decided they should. I take that seriously. Part of the first session is quietly checking whether they want to be here at all, and being honest with them that therapy tends not to work very well if it is done to someone.
There is no obligation to continue after the first session. If I am not the right fit, or if I think something different would serve your child better, I will say so and help you think about where else to look.

About me and my therapy practice
Healing trauma takes time, and a truly trauma-informed approach.
Many of us carry invisible wounds from childhood: the hypervigilance from growing up walking on eggshells, the self-criticism derived from caregivers who couldn't regulate their own emotions, or the deep sense of not being enough despite our achievements.
Complex and developmental trauma doesn't always look like what people expect, but it lives in our bodies and shapes how we see ourselves and the world.
I'm Shabnum, a trauma specialist who understands these struggles both professionally and personally.
I work specifically with adults healing from childhood trauma, emotional neglect, and the lasting effects of growing up in environments where safety - physical or emotional - wasn't guaranteed.
Currently completing advanced Complex Trauma Certification (CCTP/CCTP-II) with Dr. Janina Fisher.
I follow the evidence-based tri-phasic model in my approach to trauma recovery:
- Phase 1: Emotional Safety and Symptom Stabilisation (I have enough safety and stability in my life to address my trauma)
- Phase 2: Processing Traumatic Memories: with support (I can feel my emotions and grieve)
- Phase 3: Integration and Reconnection (I am more than my trauma)
As a second-generation Asian immigrant, I bring a nuanced understanding of cultural and religious issues, including identity struggles and family expectations. I support clients whose cultural or neurodivergent identities intersect with trauma. Whatever your background, you'll find a non-judgmental, supportive space where you can bring your whole self: your fears, hopes, and everything in between.
Where would you like to start?
Practice description
I work with people impacted by childhood complex, relational, and intergenerational trauma. You might have grown up in an unpredictable or emotionally shut-down environment, and find yourself stuck in patterns of self-doubt, over-responsibility, or people-pleasing.
Recovery from trauma takes time, care, and a flexible, supportive, validating approach.
My style is collaborative, integrative and person-centred. We鈥檒l work together to understand your needs and draw on a range of approaches to support you - at your pace, in a way that feels safe and empowering.
I鈥檓 trained in and informed by:
- Internal Family Systems (IFS)
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
- Psychodynamic therapy
At the heart of all of it is the relationship between us: a space built on empathy, attunement, and genuine human connection. This relational way of working is often the turning point for people who鈥檝e felt unseen, unheard, or unsafe in relationships before. If you鈥檙e craving a warm, collaborative space to feel truly known, that鈥檚 what you鈥檒l find here.
Working with me means having someone walk alongside you - not leading, not following, but journeying with you. I aim to create a space where you feel safe, held and deeply seen.
Client Testimonials:
鈥淲orking with Shabnum has been a profoundly healing experience. Her empathy, understanding, and guidance have supported me through a past and present I never thought I could overcome. I have never felt so seen and held in a therapeutic space. Having had bad experiences with therapists in the past, Shabnum restored my faith in therapy and the possibility of healing from trauma. I will always be grateful for the impact she has had on my life.鈥

鈥淵ou didn鈥檛 state the obvious, as other therapists in the past have done. You asked me questions which led me to have deeper insights. I have really enjoyed our sessions and have learned a lot.鈥
