About me and my therapy practice

A space for you to be real - even if you don't know what that means yet.

I'm Esther Dietrichsen-Farley, a Person-Centred Counsellor & Psychotherapist (MBACP, Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, 405143) and Founder of The Farley. I am based in Southampton and work online across the UK.

I have extensive experience working with a wide range of adults - from creatives, carers, and deep thinkers to professionals facing burnout, business founders, and those navigating major life shifts. Many of my clients seem to be managing on the outside, but inside they feel overwhelmed, unsure, or emotionally disconnected.

My approach is grounded in Person-Centred therapy, supported by ongoing development in relational, trauma-informed, and somatic work. What this means in practice is that I meet each person not as a problem to solve, but as a whole human: someone deserving of real reflection, presence, and care.

I work with people who are holding it together on the surface - showing up for work, family, and life - but inside, feel numb, lost, or stuck. Some don’t know how they feel at all. Others say they feel everything, all at once.

You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin. Some people arrive not knowing what to say. That’s okay. The work often starts in the silence, the stuckness, the not-knowing.

My practice is based in Shirley, Southampton. I also work with clients across the UK online. The space is quiet, private, and calm - and I’ll meet you wherever you’re at.

Practice description

What Brings You Here?

You might not be in crisis. You might have a life that looks "fine." But something doesn’t feel right - and hasn’t for a while.

You Might Feel:

  • Numb, flat, or like you’re just going through the motions
  • Overwhelmed by responsibility, but unable to stop
  • Disconnected from who you are - or unsure who that even is
  • Unable to name or express what you’re feeling
  • Lonely in all of it, and unsure where to begin

It’s hard to explain. But you know you’re not okay, not really.

What Therapy at The Farley Feels Like

This isn’t therapy with worksheets or a formula. It’s not about being told what to do. It’s a conversation - honest, grounded, and shaped around you.

I offer a space where you don’t have to perform, fix yourself, or find the right words. Just show up as you are. That’s enough. There’s no pressure here. Just time, attention, and genuine care.

Common Things We Explore

  • Emotional disconnection or numbness
  • Burnout and long-term overwhelm
  • High-functioning anxiety or low mood
  • Loss of identity, direction, or meaning
  • Repeating patterns in relationships or behaviour
  • The quiet sense that something’s missing - even if everything looks fine

You don’t need a label. You don’t need to have it all figured out. We begin with where you are - and go from there.

If something in you recognises this, trust that. You don’t need to explain it all to reach out. You just need somewhere to begin.
