About me and my therapy practice

I specialise in supporting you to process loss, whether after sudden life-changing events (such as redundancy, a relationship ending, or bereavement) or a growing sense that you have lost contact with that which makes life worth living.

All these situations, although different on the surface, can leave us feeling stuck, yet paradoxically lost and without purpose.

I offer you the time and confidential space to talk with someone independent, trained and experienced in supporting you to explore whatever you need to. I aim to provide an environment where you can find safety, allowing us to focus on what you bring.

Finding this safety might mean being curious about our identity - how you and I are the same and how we are different, creating a space without judgement, where curiosity can thrive.

Building up a trusting professional relationship, we will work collaboratively towards enabling you to find new perspectives and your own solutions.

You can choose for us to work in-person in my confidential therapy room in my home; online, where I would use Zoom for our session; or we can 'Walk-and-Talk' using the benefits of being outdoors.

Practice description

We will work in a way that is bespoke to what you bring, unique to you. Please contact me, and we can find out if we would work well together.

The technical term for how I work is person-centred approach based (the ±«ÓãÊÓƵwebsite can provide a really good overview of what this means). We will work on creating a trusting equal relationship, where you are able to let me know what it is like to be you and I tune in openly to all the ways you communicate this. Together, we will make sense of what has brought you to counselling, finding patterns in your life experiences, that will free you up to explore the options you have available.

I often notice useful metaphors in what you talk about; helping us to find clarity. If you want to, I will also introduce other ways of working creatively. This can allow your imagination to illustrate underlying issues and point us in the direction of possible ways forward. I find this an effective way to shine a fresh light on your life experiences.

I am also qualified to offer relaxation-techniques to allow you to move away from the stress of 'fight, flight, freeze' responses towards 'rest and digest', which often helps us to reflect and process issues in a more open and beneficial way.

My first session

I offer a free, non-obligatory, 20-minute first contact, either over the phone, via Zoom or in-person. This will not involve counselling, but will give us an opportunity to agree how we could work together, whether we would meet in-person, online (I use Zoom) or outdoors; 'Walk and Talk'.

For our full first session together, we then meet either in-person or online. We spend time agreeing how we will work together, a proforma of which I would email you in advance, together with my Privacy Notice. We will also begin to look at a focus for our sessions together (not set in stone - this may change throughout), and agree on how many sessions you would like, or leave it open-ended. It is an opportunity for you to bring any questions about how I work, that haven't been answered. There is normally also some time left to begin exploring what is happening in your life.
