About me and my therapy practice
Hello! My name is Ayanda and I am an integrative counsellor based in South East London. I work primarily with adult clients of colour, offering session both in person and online.
There could be a few reasons you have come across my profile.
• Maybe you are feeling low or anxious; are having difficulty sleeping or feeling exhausted and/or overwhelmed because you have too much on your plate.
• Perhaps you are the 'strong one' in your life, silently struggling whilst still trying to show up for everyone else.
• Maybe you have been made to feel like you don't belong and it has made you weary of trusting others and yourself.
• You might feel like an imposter in your life, questioning yourself and your capabilities.
• Perhaps the impact of past or current experiences feel like they are limiting how you want to live your life.
• You might even be questioning who you are and what you want from your life.
If these sound like you, I may be able to help.
Practice description
My integrative training means I am able to tailor my approach to suit the issues that you want to explore. This may look like
- exploring how your past has impacted you,
- understanding how the systems of oppression that we navigate shape how you are known, and have come to know yourself,
- the role that relationships have played in shaping you and your experiences,
- the meaning you make of your experiences and
- how you may be experiencing your concerns through sensations in your body.
I chose the name 'Indlela' for my practice to reflect my Zulu heritage. This is a Zulu word meaning path or journey but also a resource. I believe this word encapsulates the role I play as a counsellor. My aim is to accompany you on your journey through the difficulties or concerns that you bring by offering a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. Through this exploration, we will work to discover and develop the internal resources you need to continue your journey once therapy is over.
My first session
I know taking that first step towards therapy can be a daunting prospect and so you may have a lot of questions about therapy and the ways that it can support you.
To help with this I offer a free 15min introductory call which will allow us to meet, explore what brings you to therapy and help to determine whether I am the right therapist for you.
Should you wish to continue, we will schedule an assessment session either online or in person to further explore what brings you to therapy. This session will help determine whether our work will be time limited (6-12 sessions focused on a particular issue which we will decide at the onset) or open-ended and longer term.
We will then meet for weekly 50min sessions to explore the areas identified within this assessment session.
