About me and my therapy practice
Are you going through a difficult time or feeling stuck? You don’t have to face things alone.
I offer counselling and CBT both online and in person from my own private, purpose-built therapy rooms in St Helens town centre. The space is newly furnished, welcoming, and designed to help you feel comfortable and at ease.
People come to counselling for many reasons. You might be struggling with anxiety, low mood, or panic, or perhaps you’re facing relationship difficulties, grief, anger, stress, or the pressures of everyday life. Some people know exactly what they want to work on, while others just feel lost and need a space to talk things through.
Counselling and CBT can help you process difficult emotions, break unhelpful patterns, and reconnect with your sense of self. It can support you to relate better to yourself and others, make important decisions, cope with change, and move forward when life feels stuck. You don’t need to be in crisis to reach out—no problem is too small.
Alongside my counselling work, I bring 20 years of healthcare experience, which has given me a special interest in helping people cope with the emotional impact of physical illness or life-changing medical diagnoses. This might include living with pain, managing fear of the future, adjusting to changes in daily life, or supporting someone you care about through illness.
Whatever your situation, I offer a warm, non-judgemental, and confidential space where together we can explore what’s going on for you and find a way forward.
Practice description
I offer a flexible, collaborative approach because I believe therapy should fit around you—not the other way around. You might want space to reflect on your thoughts and feelings, or you may prefer a more structured, goal-focused style. We can work together to decide what feels right.
I’m trained as an integrative therapist, combining person-centred counselling with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This allows us to balance emotional exploration with practical strategies for change. When useful, I also draw on elements of psychodynamic, relational, and solution-focused therapy.
Each session is a confidential space where you can talk openly without fear of judgement. Whether you’re working through something specific or you’re not sure where to start, my role is to support you in making sense of what’s going on, finding ways to cope, and moving towards feeling more like yourself again.
For clients living with long-term health conditions or life-changing diagnoses—whether your own or someone else’s—I offer additional understanding from my healthcare background and personal experience. This might include adjusting to change, coping with pain, or managing the emotional impact of illness.
Sessions are available online or in person from my private therapy rooms in St Helens town centre.
My first session
Before starting therapy, I usually offer a brief phone call. This gives us a chance to introduce ourselves, discuss what you’re looking for from counselling, and check that our availability and way of working are a good fit.
If you decide to go ahead, we’ll arrange your first session. In this meeting, I’ll carry out a gentle counselling assessment to help me understand you better and begin to shape how we’ll work together. We’ll also agree on a working contract. This isn’t about committing to a set number of sessions—it simply sets out the professional boundaries that help keep counselling safe and ethical. It includes things like confidentiality, fees, cancellations, and where you can seek support if you ever have concerns.
There will be time in this first session for you to begin talking about what’s brought you to counselling. How much you choose to share is entirely up to you. Some people open up right away, while others prefer to take it slowly. Both are perfectly fine.
You’ll also get a sense of how I work, although counselling relationships tend to deepen over time, so the first session may feel a little different from later ones.
At the end of the session, we can talk about whether you’d like to continue. There’s no pressure to decide straight away—you’re welcome to take some time to think it over.
