About me and my therapy practice
Hello and welcome.
My name is Mobeen Akhtar, and I am a qualified psychotherapist working with both adults and children.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious or simply in need of a safe space to talk, you're not alone and you're in the right place. Therapy is a personal journey and my role is to walk alongside you as we explore your experiences together. Whether you're an adult facing emotional challenges or a parent seeking support for your child. I aim to provide a calm, supportive environment where growth and understanding can take place.
I work in an integrative way, meaning I tailor my approach to suit each person's unique needs. At the heart of my practice are the values of empathy, authenticity, and acceptance which are known as the core conditions of Person Centred Therapy. These values are key to building a trusting and respectful relationship, where you or your child can feel safe to express emotions and be heard without judgment.
For younger clients, I create a gentle and playful space that helps them explore feelings in a way that feels natural and comfortable. For adults, I offer a reflective and grounded environment where deeper self awareness and healing can unfold.
Therapy can feel daunting at first especially opening up to someone new, but it can also be a powerful step towards positive change. I believe everyone deserves to be seen, valued, and supported just as they are.
Thank you for visiting my profile. I hope to offer you or your child a safe and compassionate space on your therapeutic journey.
Practice description
At my practice, I offer a safe, supportive space for both adults and children to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences at their own pace. I understand that starting therapy can feel daunting, so I aim to make each session feel welcoming, calm and grounded.
As an integrative psychotherapist, I adapt my approach to suit the unique needs of each client. I draw on a range of therapeutic models including Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Polyvagal Theory to support emotional understanding, regulation, and self-awareness. When helpful, I also incorporate psychoeducation, offering insight into how the mind and body respond to stress, anxiety, or trauma. To empower clients with knowledge about their own experiences.
At the heart of my work is a Person Centred foundation, I prioritise empathy, acceptance and authenticity in the therapeutic relationship. I believe these core conditions are essential for creating a trusting environment where you or your child can feel safe to speak, explore and grow.
For adults, therapy may involve working through past experiences, current challenges or unhelpful patterns in a reflective and collaborative way. For children, I offer a gentle, creative space that encourages emotional expression through play, story or age appropriate conversation.
Whether you're struggling with anxiety, low mood, identity, family dynamics or simply want a space to better understand yourself, I will walk alongside you with care and sensitivity.
You don’t need to have all the answers, only the courage to begin. I’m here to support that first step.
My first session
Before our first session, I invite clients to complete a short online assessment form via my website. This helps me gain a basic understanding of what’s bringing you to therapy and allows us to make the most of our time together.
In our first session, we will gently explore your reasons for seeking support, discuss your goals and begin to get a sense of what you hope to gain from therapy. We will also go through a collaborative assessment together where I introduce you to the counselling agreement. A simple contract that outlines the structure, confidentiality and boundaries of our work together.
Importantly, this first session is also an opportunity for you to get a feel for how I work and whether I feel like the right fit for you (or for your child, if you are seeking support on their behalf). A good therapeutic relationship is central to effective therapy, so I encourage you to take this time to reflect on how comfortable you feel in the space we create.
There is no pressure to commit right away, some clients know quickly, others may want to take some time to decide. I fully respect whatever pace feels right for you.
The first session is to offer a welcoming, respectful and open environment where you can begin your therapeutic journey with clarity and confidence.
