About me and my therapy practice
Hello & Welcome,
At a certain point your life may contain very human challenges: transitions, concerns, doubts, uncertainties and dissatisfactions concerning your relationships, your understanding of yourself and your life as a whole. You may be struggling to make sense of your experiences leaving you feeling many things including overwhelmed, out of control within the unknown, stuck, alone, anxious, angry or confused whilst you do your best to navigate this. Being with a neutral party who is not a family member or a friend can help in gaining relief, increased insight, self-understanding, self-acceptance, help to make changes if you so wish and envision a way forward. I hold a particular interest in life's big questions and I love helping others to navigate through what life has to throw at them.
I am a fully-qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, including Diplomas in Level 4 & 5 Counselling, and a Master of Arts Degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy Practice. My approach is humanistic and primarily person-centred meaning that exploration is led by you, your needs are at the centre of our work and co-creating a relationship between us based on acceptance, trust and openness is key to facilitating a meaningful experience.
Practice description
Perhaps you find yourself experiencing not just an embodied anxiety but a philosophical anxiety also?: Am I making choices which align with my values? Am I satisfied with the relationships I choose? Do I have a sense of who I am as an individual and in relation to others and what do I need from my life? Counselling can help you to more clearly understand how you experience your unique place in the world: We can explore how past experiences and adopted methods to coping have shaped present experiences, explore here and now experiences and consider how you might envision your future.
As part of my commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth, I have undertaken learning such as:
- Workshops in Existential exploration in therapy, Existential philosophy & the Existential exploration of the human experience of anxiety
- Mindfulness
- Supporting and being curious about the lived experiences of Transgender and Non-Binary people
- Being conscious of the holistic effects of traumatic experiencing via academic/professional study to provide a 'trauma informed' approach.
My role is not to position myself as the "all knowing therapist" which I am not, but to work in partnership with you, to allow space to really hear you, support you to find your own unique meaning and facilitate exploration where appropriate, within a safe and comfortable environment based on trust, acceptance, kindness and without fear of judgment. Sessions are open-ended, so you get to choose how long you would like to commit and can be weekly or fortnightly. A satisfying experience of counselling requires an investment of your time and consistent attendance. Counselling is a unique investment: your time to place yourself first.
Making initial contact can be daunting but if you feel that we might be a good fit and would like to arrange a free initial conversation, then I look forward to hearing from you.
Contact me via the bacp, drop me an email at: pfcounselling@outlook.com, or contact me by phone.
My first session
I offer a free initial conversation lasting 15-30 minutes, either online via Zoom or by phone. This will allow us to talk about what I am able to offer and will also help us to gage whether we will be able to work together and whether I would be an appropriate fit for you.A limited number of concessionary spaces are held open for those who are students and/or are unemployed: enquire for availability.
Our first session after the initial meeting will include a assessment which will help me to gain a clearer picture of what you may be looking for from therapy and to make sure that I possess the appropriate levels of competency to ensure that our time together is conducted safely. I will also conduct regular reviews with you to gain an understanding of how you are experiencing our sessions.
