Welcome — A Safe, Compassionate Space for Healing

Hello, I’m Amanda. If you’re seeking a warm, experienced, and flexible counsellor for yourself, your child, or your family, you’re in the right place.

Life can be challenging, and emotional struggles can affect every part of it — from relationships to self-esteem and daily wellbeing. Whether you’re an adult feeling overwhelmed, a teenager finding their way, or a parent concerned about your child, I am here to support you with care and understanding.

I work Monday to Saturday with flexible hours, offering in-person sessions in my welcoming Burnley therapy room or online. My approach is confidential, compassionate, and non-judgmental, creating a safe space for honest and healing conversations.

I specialise in supporting children and teens with anxiety, low self-esteem, school pressures, social challenges, or trauma. Using a person-centred and creative approach — including play and sand tray therapy — I help young people express emotions safely and build confidence.

About me and my therapy practice

My approach is confidential, compassionate, and non-judgmental. In our first sessions, we focus on building trust and understanding your needs, creating a safe space for real change to begin.

I specialise in supporting children and adolescents facing anxiety, low self-esteem, school pressures, or trauma. Using a person-centred, creative approach — including talking therapy, play, and sand tray therapy — I help young people express emotions in ways that feel safe and natural.

As an EMDR practitioner, I also offer trauma-focused support for children, adolescents, and adults. EMDR helps reduce distress, build resilience, and restore a sense of calm and control.

I support parents too, helping strengthen family bonds and communication, so you never feel alone in supporting your child.

My therapy room is designed to feel safe and inviting — a place where children can play, teens can relax, and adults can talk openly.

At the heart of my work is the belief that every person has the capacity to heal and grow. Together, we’ll explore new strengths, build coping strategies, and create positive, lasting change.

Please feel free to reach out with questions or to arrange an initial session. There’s no pressure — just a warm invitation to start your journey.

What You Can Expect From Me

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my approach.

In January 2020, I achieved a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling from Preston’s College — a milestone that deepened my passion for supporting others.

My path into counselling began later in life and was shaped by many years of caring for others. I first qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1995 and as a Registered Mental Health Nurse in 1999. I also hold a degree in Health Studies. This background allows me to understand and support each person as a whole — both emotionally and physically.

I am also a certified EMDR Practitioner, specialising in working with children and adolescents. This advanced training helps me support younger clients in processing difficult experiences through gentle, creative approaches.

My main focus is on mental health, helping individuals manage and overcome challenges such as anxiety, panic attacks, and self-harm. I understand how overwhelming these struggles can feel, and my role is to walk alongside you with compassion and care.

When you work with me, you can expect:

✅ A safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly.

✅ A compassionate, patient approach — we move at a pace that feels right for you.

✅ Support tailored to your unique needs, goals, and strengths.

✅ A focus on empowerment and resilience, helping you discover your inner strength.

✅ Specialist trauma-informed care, including EMDR, to help you or your child feel safe and understood.

Counselling is a powerful tool for improving mental health and wellbeing. Whether you’re facing anxiety, feeling stuck, or simply wanting space to grow, I truly believe in the positive change it can bring.

My promise is to support and encourage you every step of the way, helping you find greater peace and clarity.

If this resonates with you, I warmly invite you to reach out. It would be an honour to be part of your journey.

What to Expect in Our First Session

When you reach out, we’ll arrange your first session at a time that feels comfortable and convenient for you. I understand that taking this step can feel daunting, and I want you to know you will be warmly welcomed and fully supported from the moment you arrive.

My therapy room is a peaceful, inviting space designed to help you feel safe and at ease. You’ll be greeted with warmth, a friendly smile, and, if you’d like, a refreshing drink. I’ll show you around so you can settle in and feel at home before we begin.

This first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and for you to decide if I am the right counsellor for you. Building a trusting relationship is at the heart of my work, and this meeting is the start of that foundation.

You’ll have the opportunity to talk about what has brought you to counselling, your worries or concerns, and what you hope to achieve. You’re free to share as much or as little as feels right — there’s no pressure.

I will listen attentively and with genuine care, allowing you to speak openly without fear of judgment. Everything you share is held in strict confidence, creating a secure and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings.

Counselling sessions last one hour, and during this time, my focus is entirely on you — your comfort, needs, and well-being. We can also discuss practical details, like how often you’d like to attend and whether you prefer in-person or online sessions.

By the end of our first meeting, my hope is that you leave feeling lighter, reassured, and empowered to take the next steps in your journey. You will never be pressured — this space is yours to explore at your own pace.

Your journey is unique, and I am here to walk alongside you with warmth, understanding, and unwavering support every step of the way.

My welcoming therapy room is open for appointments Monday through Saturday, from 9 am to 6 pm. I offer in-person and online sessions, and I am highly flexible to accommodate your schedule and needs.

As an EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) practitioner, I support both adults and children in processing trauma, anxiety, panic, and distressing memories. EMDR is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps the brain "reprocess" difficult experiences, reducing their emotional impact and allowing you to move forward with more calm and confidence.

For adults, EMDR can bring relief from longstanding patterns and emotional pain, helping you regain a sense of control and inner peace.

With children and adolescents, EMDR is carefully adapted to be gentle and creative. Younger clients often find it hard to express traumatic or overwhelming feelings with words alone. By incorporating elements of play, drawing, and storytelling, EMDR becomes a safe and engaging process for them to process big feelings at their own pace.

In addition to EMDR, I offer sand tray therapy — a powerful, hands-on approach that allows clients of all ages to express and explore their inner world using miniature figures and objects in a tray of sand. This method helps make sense of complex emotions and experiences without needing to find the "right words," which is especially helpful for children and teenagers.

Sand tray therapy supports emotional expression, builds self-awareness, and helps develop healthier coping skills, all within a safe and creative space.

Alongside my therapeutic work, I also offer supervision to other counsellors, welcoming those seeking a supportive, reflective space for professional growth.

Please feel free to get in touch to discuss counselling, EMDR, sand tray therapy, or supervision. I warmly invite you to reach out and start this journey together.

About me and my therapy practice

As a counselling supervisor, I am deeply dedicated to offering supportive, thoughtful guidance to all my supervisees. My approach centres on creating an atmosphere of trust, openness, and mutual respect, so you feel safe to explore your clinical work, challenges, and personal growth without judgment.

In our sessions, you will find a confidential, encouraging space to reflect on your practice, build confidence, and strengthen your skills. Together, we can explore complex cases, navigate ethical dilemmas, and celebrate your successes. I provide constructive, compassionate feedback informed by my extensive experience in mental health and counselling, always aiming to support your development as a reflective and empowered practitioner.

I tailor my approach to your individual needs, recognising that each supervisee brings a unique background, learning style, and journey. Whether you want to focus on clinical discussions, theoretical frameworks, or the emotional impact of your work, I will adapt to support your goals and help you grow at your own pace.

I also prioritise continuous learning and professional development, integrating up-to-date research, best practices, and ethical guidance into our supervision. By staying current with advancements in the field, I aim to equip you with the knowledge and confidence needed to deliver high-quality, ethical care to your clients.

My ultimate goal as a supervisor is to empower you to navigate the complexities of counselling with confidence, compassion, and integrity. I am committed to helping you develop your skills, deepen your self-awareness, and feel supported as you grow into a skilled, self-assured, and ethically grounded practitioner.

If you’re looking for a supervisor who will walk alongside you with warmth and respect, I warmly invite you to reach out and begin this journey together.

My first session

In our first session, my focus is on creating a safe, welcoming environment where you can begin to share your story at your own pace. This initial meeting is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to decide if I am the right counsellor for you.

I do not charge a different rate for the first session; it is the same as any standard counselling session. During this time, you will be invited to talk about what has brought you to counselling, any current challenges, and what you hope to gain from our work together. There is no pressure to share everything at once — we go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I do not require you to complete a formal assessment before we meet. Instead, I believe in starting with a genuine, person-centred conversation that allows us to build trust and understand your needs naturally.

In this session, we can also discuss practical details such as session frequency, whether you prefer in-person or online appointments, and answer any questions you may have about the counselling process.
