I’m currently available for new clients

I have 8 years experience working in Clinical Practice as a Child/AdultPsychotherapist.

During this time Courage2Be has also grown in support of a top down approach. Young people learn mostly from what they observe and experience within their own eco system. They are therefore much more likely to build the resilience to thrive when parents, carers, teachers and close adults are supported in breaking their own cycles of generational wounding and lived experiences.

So I now only work with adults within psychotherapy and I also enjoy parent and relationship coaching with the added benefit of utilising therapeutic skills to deep dive and unearth the limiting beliefs or patterns that are holding you back, either personally or professionally and together we work towards solutions that feel aligned for you.

I also have experience as a Counselling Lecturer and Clinical Supervisor and I currently only work online via zoom.

Availability is flexible during the day and during some weekday evenings.

As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I draw on many different approaches including- Internal Family Systems Theory, Attachment Theory, Bowen's Family Systems Theory, Client Centred, CBT, ACT Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Inner Child work, Non-violent Communications Theory and Psychodynamic Theory.

About me and my therapy practice

Welcome to Courage2Be – I'm so glad you're here.

I'm a qualified and experienced Psychotherapist as well as a Parent and Relationship Coach, and I'm passionate about helping adults and parents build strong, healthy relationships—with themselves and with the people they love.

Life isn’t meant to be an endless struggle. It’s not about just surviving or getting through each day while feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or disconnected. I believe we’re all meant to live with joy, confidence, balance, and a true sense of belonging. And sometimes, we need support to get there.

So, how can I help?

I help people who feel stuck in patterns of self-doubt, people-pleasing, or relationship struggles. If any of the following sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and I can support you:

You worry too much about what others think and struggle to speak up or make decisions for yourself.

You constantly feel like you're not measuring up—as a parent, a partner, or just as you—and it’s wearing you down.

You give so much to everyone else that there’s nothing left for you. You feel resentful, but also guilty for even thinking about putting yourself first.

You find it hard to trust or fully open up in relationships. You want deeper connection, but it feels scary or unsafe.

Social situations make you anxious. You overthink everything afterward and compare yourself to others who seem more confident or carefree.

You feel frustrated in your relationship—like you're carrying the emotional or practical load alone—or you're worried about growing apart from your partner or from your children.

You avoid conflict, but now communication feels impossible, and you're feeling stuck, distant, or lonely.

If any of this resonates, I’d love to support you. Together, we’ll work to untangle what’s holding you back, build resilience and self-trust, and create the meaningful relationships—and the life—you truly deserve.

Courage2Be is about just that: the courage to be yourself, fully and freely. Let’s take that step together.

Practice description

Life can feel like a rollercoaster, and trying to manage it all—especially through big emotions, negative thoughts, and overwhelm—can be incredibly hard.

Making real change isn’t easy, especially when you're feeling stuck or unsure where to begin. That’s why professional support can make such a difference. Whether you’re new to therapy or coaching, or you've had support before, feeling safe, heard, and understood is the foundation of this work.

Alongside my work with adults, I’ve spent many years in schools and clinical settings as a child and adolescent psychotherapist and parenting coach. Through this and extensive training, I’ve gained deep insight into child development—what children truly need to thrive—and the very real challenges parents face along the way.

Parenting is one of the toughest jobs there is. And like any skill, it takes time, support, and practice to grow. We wouldn’t expect to master the guitar the first time we pick it up— Yet, so often, we expect ourselves to just know how to be a great parent and navigate our own emotional world with calmness and clarity.

The Reality Many Parents and Individuals Face

The truth is that many of us didn’t grow up feeling truly safe, seen, or emotionally supported. Even clients who say they had a "good childhood" often come to realise that unmet emotional needs, generational patterns, or adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) may still be affecting them today—especially in their relationships with partners, children, family, friends, or even themselves.

This isn't about blaming parents or the past. It's about recognising that we are all shaped by the environment we grew up in. Many of us were taught to keep the peace, hide our feelings, or ignore our needs—often without even realising it.

Healing begins with awareness. This is a space where it can be all about you to unpack what’s weighing you down, make sense of your experiences, and figure out how to move forward with clarity, confidence, and compassion.

My first session

First Session

This consists of a Free ~ 30 Minute 'Get to know you' session via Phone or Zoom.

This is a space to gain clarity on what support you need, what you consider to be your goals or destination and an understanding of the roadmap and guidance to get you there. The opportunity to explore this together will give us an understanding of how well suited we are to work together and how comfortable you would feel working with me.

I've worked with 1000's of client's now, who in one way or another have looked to close the gap between who they are showing up as now and who they would really like to show up as.

What I've learned from our work together and my own lived experience is that there are common patterns that occur as a result of how we were shaped in childhood and our lived experiences.

So whilst your experiences, beliefs and values are unique to you, what often occurs is that unconsciously you are actually living to someone else's framework or blueprint of what's expected or how you should be. Over years of clinical practice and research, I know that a huge part of the transformation and solution for you is going to be grounding yourself in your own inner master blueprint - of who you truly want to be.

At Courage2Be, I will support you in exploring those deep-rooted experiences, outdated beliefs and values, so you can build healthier relationships, understand yourself better, and create a more secure and fulfilling life—starting from the inside out, because I'm grounded in the belief that connection, that free child creative play, and courage are essential for personal growth.

I understand how deep-rooted thought patterns and behaviours—often passed down through generations—can hold us back from being our true selves.

So if you're ready to break free from these limiting patterns to heal, transform and create a new path forward, please do contact me to arrange a free get to know you session. I can't wait to support yo on this life changing journey.

Warmly,

Janine

About me and my therapy practice

Hello and welcome,

I'm an Integrative Supervisor, Psychotherapist and CYP Psychotherapist. I'm told that one of my superpowers is in offering a calm, safe and grounding space to explore the work. I am drawn towards the Seven-Eyed Model and Cyclical model of Supervision. But perhaps most importantly, as a practitioner, I am informed by the clients and supervisees that I am fortunate enough to work with.

Below is further information that may help you in making an informed decision.

My Background

I have worked in education and care for the past 20 years. This has included roles in teaching, childminding and nannying. I have also specialised in Child Development [0-18 years] with the Psychology Degree I am currently undertaking along with experience as a Counselling Lecturer and Mentor, covering CPCAB criteria.

My Counselling Practice

Through my specialist counselling practice with children and young people, aged 6 years plus, I have worked in partnership with parents, schools, police and social workers and I have also sat on EHCP Reviews for children with Autism and ADHD.

I am used to working with many common issues including depression, anxiety, self-harm, suicide ideation, attachment, bullying school refusal, relationship or family difficulties, separation anxiety, autism including a PDA profile, ADHD, body dysmorphia and trauma. I also frequently navigate assessments and strategies with children, parents, families and teachers where appropriate. I, therefore, feel that I have a lot of experience to offer CYP Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

Whilst I enjoy working with children and young people, I also enjoy working with male, female and non-binary adult counselling clients. I have a keen interest in working with adults who find relationships with themselves and/or others difficult. I work person-centred, Transactional Analysis, systemic and CBT models along with creative ways of working.

Practice description

It's a privilege to support counsellors with their client work and witness the growth and development that can come from this unique way of working together, both for the supervisee and their clients as well as myself. After all, there is always something to learn from each other, regardless of our role.

My Supervision Practice

The working relationship is really important to me. Therefore, creating an environment where you feel safe enough to explore all of your client work, especially the challenging aspects is key.

You will always be at the centre of the work and I believe it is important for a good supervisor to encourage your own way of working with clients. You know your clients best and what approach may or may not work for them.

For me, Supervision is an exploratory practice and any experience or intervention that I feel may be useful based on what you are bringing to the session, will be offered as a point of exploration if you choose to. A power balance within our working relationship is respected and the dynamic would only change if there were safeguarding concerns that required immediate action.

Whilst the ethical framework requires us to put our clients first, sometimes counsellors forget that they are also important within the working relationship. I, therefore, welcome exploration of where you are as a supervisee, either with clients, within your practice or development or within life in general. This in my mind can really help to support your growth and development and deepen our working alliance and the use of self within the work.

I can offer face-to-face supervision from my home-based  Counselling/Supervision room in Houghton Le Spring, DH4 or via Zoom if preferred.

Free initial 60-minute discovery session

£60 for 60 minutes

£75 for 90 minutes

Free emergency 15-minute phone call if something urgent arises, so that you feel held and contained at all times within your work.

My first session

I offer a free 60-minute discovery session on Zoom or in Person for new potential supervisees. This gives us time to make an informed decision about working together and understand what you need from your supervision.

Often this is achieved through discussions around the following.

  • Reason for contact
  • Introductions
  • Getting to know each other
  • Contracting
  • Type of client work
  • Experience
  • Hopes for Supervision
  • Your goals and needs from Supervision and personal development
  • Understanding of roles within supervision
  • Models of working within Supervision
  • Managing expectations within Supervision
  • Ethical Framework
  • Answering any questions

The working relationship is really important to me. Therefore, creating an environment and a relationship where you feel safe enough to explore all of your client work, especially the challenging aspects is key. My hope within this first session is that get a feel of what working with me might be like and whether leaning into this will be possible.

At the end of the session, there will be time for us to go away and reflect on how we feel about working together. It will be left to you to get back in contact if you decide that you would like to go ahead. If we agree to work together then a contract will be emailed to you to be completed online or posted for you to complete and return.

We can also agree on a suitable time to review Supervision to ensure that it is meeting your requirements.
