About me and my therapy practice

I am a caring and thoughtful person with a great sense of observation. I am passionate about human relations and how they evolve depending on the contexts in which they are being negotiated. I am originally from Italy, but I spent 20 years in the UK, where I gained considerable experience in the Education and Mental Health sectors. I am currently based in Sardinia (Italy), but I do also spend part of the week in the U.K., where I teach Counselling and Psychotherapy in a university setting, and provide counselling and psychotherapy sessions in Italian and in English.

The use of the title Dr in this directory listing relates to the member’s doctorate qualification. However, this does not imply a general medical qualification.

Practice description

In my practice, I provide a safe and confidential space for empathic listening and for reflection. Our work together aims at regaining and maintaining your wellbeing, by reinforcing your personal resources and developing your ability to make choices. Over the years, I specialised in two main areas of therapeutic support: Intercultural Psychotherapy and Academic Counselling. This mean that I can be of great help if you feel unsettled or uneasy in a new academic and cultural context. My approach combines a relational work between your internal and external worlds, including understanding how your mind, emotions and body work together to help regain wellbeing.

Practice description

In my practice, I provide a safe and confidential space for empathic listening and for reflection, where issues can be explored, the ability to make choices can be reinforced and personal resources can be developed. My clinical practice aims at raising awareness on the relations we have with others and with ourselves, including the relation between emotions, mind and body, with a view of fostering your wellbeing.

Over the years, I specialised in academic and intercultural therapeutic support. This means that I can be of great help if you are experiencing the pressure of the university environment, often coming from deadlines, demands and expectations. The main aim of this type of support is to foster your lived experiences of studying or working in Academia. This therapeutic support can be particularly useful for issues related to anxiety, expectation, motivation, procrastination, public speaking and stress.

I can also help you if you have moved abroad and are struggling to understand and adapt to a new cultural environment. I do that by raising awareness on your behaviours and those of others around you; by exploring your communication skills and cultural beliefs and by helping you remodelling your beliefs and attitudes in accordance with the new contexts. This type of support can be particularly useful for issues related to intercultural communication, cultural identity, culture shock, discrimination and prejudice.

I provide this support by using a humanistic-existential approach, informed by focusing-oriented therapy. For more information about my modality of practice, please feel free to visit my website <www.soniagallucci.com>.
