Sessions are held online via video call and in person from my home-based counselling room in LS14. I have flexible appointment times, including some evening availability.

About me and my therapy practice

Do you feel constantly on edge, unable to switch off, or as though you're always waiting for something to go wrong?

Maybe your life changed in an instant through an accident, assault or the loss of someone you loved. Or perhaps it wasn't one traumatic event, but years of difficult experiences that left you questioning your worth or believing you're not good enough.

Painful and traumatic life events can leave you feeling chronically unsafe, overwhelmed, and disconnected from yourself and others. Trauma isn't just something you remember. It can affect your nervous system, leaving you reacting to everyday situations as though danger is still present. Perhaps you're exhausted but can't sleep properly, avoiding places or situations because you don't know what might trigger you, or getting through everyday life while struggling far more than anyone realises.

My name's Janine and I'm passionate about helping people heal from the lasting effects of trauma and distressing life events.

For many people, this can include symptoms of PTSD, anxiety and depression. I offer trauma-focused counselling and EMDR therapy to help you process what has happened, reduce the emotional and physical impact of traumatic memory and develop a greater sense of safety in the present.

What could change?

I'll help you develop gentle, effective ways of responding to triggers, so they have less power over you, helping you rebuild confidence in your ability to cope.

EMDR can alleviate nightmares and flashbacks.  So you may notice better sleep, improvements in concentration and more energy for the people and activities that matter most.

Trauma can make relationships feel unsafe, leaving you guarded, reactive or disconnected. Trauma-focused therapy can help to ease emotional reactions that lead to conflict, making it easier to connect, communicate and enjoy your relationships again.

Practice description

I offer a therapy space that is Neurodivergent-informed and LGBTQIA+ affirming.

Trauma-focused counselling with me is a collaborative process. We'll work together to develop a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs, one that's built to help you reach the goals you have for therapy.

EMDR can be delivered either through regular weekly sessions or in an intensive format for those seeking more focused, accelerated support. Whether you're looking to work steadily through past experiences over time or want a condensed format to make quicker progress, I can you find the help the path that feels right for you.

My qualifications and professional training

I qualified as a Person‑Centred counsellor in 2018 (CPCAB Level 4 Diploma) and became a ±«ÓãÊÓƵaccredited counsellor in 2022.

In 2023 I trained as an EMDR therapist and achieved EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner status in 2025. I'm listed on the EMDR Association UK register of accredited practitioners.

Alongside my core training, I have undertaken further study in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Neurodivergent-informed EMDR, Attachment‑informed EMDR, Polyvagal theory and Trauma‑Informed Stabilisation. This means I can draw on a broad range of specialist knowledge to tailor therapy to your individual needs, taking into account how trauma, attachment, the nervous system and neurodivergence can shape the way you experience the world.

In line with ±«ÓãÊÓƵguidelines, I engage in regular clinical supervision and complete annual CPD relevant to my areas of practice.

My first session

Sometimes the hardest part is knowing where to start. Getting the right support after trauma and painful life events shouldn't be another struggle.  My aim is to make therapy feel welcoming, collaborative and stress-free.

We'll begin with a 60-minute online consultation. During this session we'll talk through your symptoms or concerns and what you're hoping to get out of therapy. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions about EMDR, trauma-focused therapy, or how I work as a counsellor. If it feels like a good fit and you'd like to continue with regular sessions, we can find a day and time that works well for you going forward.

I offer short-term and open-ended therapy. If you have a specific budget or number of sessions in mind, we can talk about this and agree how to make the most of our time together.

The cost of this appointment is £80 payable at the time of booking, there is no obligation to book further sessions.

Before we meet, I'll send you a couple of short questionnaires and a personal information form to complete. These give me some useful background information so that we can make the best use of our time together.

It's natural to feel apprehensive about making a commitment to therapy and I understand you may have a few questions you'd like answering before booking in for an initial consultation. If so, please drop me an email with further details and I'll get back to you within 24 hours. You can also find lots of information about the services I offer on my website.
