About me and my therapy practice
I’m real, and I care. And I have training and experience I can bring to help you. That’s really what I want to say here. I imagine its been difficult for you to consider counselling, and that it seems daunting to choose a therapist. I respect that this is difficult, and will do all I can to help you.
Would it help to know something about me?
I’ve completed a five year training in psychotherapy, and have been working as a psychotherapist since 2010. I came from a background of working in healthcare, with patients with illnesses and disabilities that were, at times, life limiting.
While I welcome all clients, I’m becoming increasingly specialised in working with issues related to illness, disability and life limited care. I have had further training in these areas since qualifying and, in addition to my psychotherapy practice, I support patients, their friends and family, at our local hospital.
With this training, I bring personal experience, both my own and through those I’m close to. The fears, pain, exhaustion, resentment, sadness and whole myriad of emotions. And also the renewed connections, and new perspectives and deepening understanding that can come, too. I’m able to come alongside you, and help you find a way through.
Practice description
To begin with, I’d like to get together with you over the phone, to say hello, and talk a little about what you’d like from counselling. This can be an opportunity for you to bring any concerns you have, and for us to find a day and time for regular sessions that’s good for us both. There is no charge for this call.
I’ve moved from meeting clients in person to meeting online or over the phone, as I’ve found this has been the preferred route for many people. It can be easier, more practical, and as effective as meeting in person. I’ve been working in this way for some years now and adjust my way of working to fully support clients. The world seems to have embraced online working since lockdown, however if you would particularly like to meet in person, do let me know and we can see how we could do this.
Regular sessions will be weekly, at the same time and on the same day, each week. This is beneficial, as it gives a sense of security and holding. However, I do understand that appointments and life generally can mean sessions need to be rescheduled sometimes. If this is the case, please give me as much notice as you can and I’ll let you know my availability that week to possibly reschedule.
Our first session will differ from subsequent sessions as, during this session, I’ll carry out an initial assessment. It may feel more structured, as I’ll ask questions about your circumstances, and from this we’ll establish a way forward for our sessions.
I generally suggest we work within a six or twelve session framework, with a review built in. At this review, we'll consider how you are now, and the best way forward, at which time you may extend the framework to further sessions, if you'd like to.
Please get in touch with me, by phone or email, and we can find a time to say that first hello.
