About me and my therapy practice
Hello,
I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist based in Southport. Alongside Person-Centred Therapy, I offer other strategies, such as Solution Focused Therapy, aspects of EMDR, DBT, Mindfulness and CBT. As a person-centred therapist, I put you at the centre of our working together. I provide a warm and empathic environment in which we can work, supporting you to explore your thoughts and feelings, so you can find an answer for yourself. I won't judge you, so you can feel safe to talk about anything you need to. Trust and confidentiality is paramount.
I have experience in many areas, such as anxiety/low mood and depression, bereavement, sexual abuse, CSA, sibling relationships, relationship breakdown, domestic abuse/rape and sexual assault/baby loss/loneliness/low self-esteem/self-harm, guilt/shame and stress, including exam stress. I can support you to improve your sleep which is an important aspect of managing mental health issues.
You may have experienced a loss; a bereavement, job, relationship/friendship, money, or a loss of health or identity. Or you may be providing support to another and you need someone to talk to. You may have experienced abuse, and want to find ways of moving forward. Exploring how you think and feel about many issues can help you understand yourself. It is that understanding that gives you the confidence to move forward in your life. I am there to support you as you navigate these challenges.
I have provided training to other counsellors on working with child sexual abuse, as well as living with long-term health conditions. I work with 16 plus only.
Attending therapy is not easy as it can be hard work to explore painful emotions that may have been buried deep for many years. Counselling is focused on learning and understanding yourself to take you forward.
Practice description
I offer both online, f2f or telephone sessions.
I offer a free 30 minute initial consultation to help you decide if I am the right therapist for you, giving you the opportunity to talk about what brings you to therapy. This is done online or via the telephone.
You may find things difficult to talk about, and may prefer to write, or draw. Sometimes music, or literature has the words we want to say but find too difficult. I will be guided by you.
The number of sessions will depend on what has brought you to therapy and the process. We will review our work regularly to assess our progress.
Please note: If you are at imminent risk from yourself or others, call 999, or attend your local A and E department. You can also call the Samaritans on 116 123. or your local crisis helpline.
My first session
If you decide to continue after your free consultation, we will arrange a convenient day and time for our sessions. They are normally the same day and time each week. We will complete a mutually agreed counselling agreement and data protection policy, in line with the ±«ÓãÊÓƵ This helps clarify what to expect from each other before going forward. I will send you a Zoom link for you to access your first full session if online.
An assessment is done to help me understand what has brought you to therapy, where you can discuss in more detail aspects outlined in the consultation. We can identify therapeutic goals and what you want to get from therapy.
We will agree to review after a certain number of sessions before continuing if needed.
I would ask that you ensure you have privacy to talk freely via online or telephone appts.
