About me and my therapy practice
Has trust broken down in your relationship? Perhaps communication has become tense or silent, intimacy has changed, or betrayal, infidelity or compulsive sexual behaviour has left you unsure what to believe or what to do next.
You may also be coming alone because you are exhausted by overthinking, overgiving, walking on eggshells or repeating the same painful relationship patterns.
I'm Janet, a BACP-accredited Relationship Therapist. I work with individuals and couples who want to understand what is happening beneath their difficulties and make meaningful, informed change.
My style is warm, honest and practical. I will listen without judgement, while also helping you recognise patterns, have clearer conversations and identify what needs to change. You do not need to arrive knowing whether your relationship can be repaired or whether you should stay or leave. Therapy can help you find greater clarity.
I offer an inclusive and respectful service to people of all gender identities and sexual orientations.
My background includes counselling, psychotherapy, psychosexual therapy, grief and loss, education and family-system work. I have worked across NHS, hospice and private-practice settings, supporting people through relationship difficulties, sexual and intimacy concerns, trauma, separation, grief and loss of identity.
If you feel ready to understand what is happening and begin changing the patterns that are hurting you, you are welcome to contact me.
Practice description
I specialise in supporting individuals and couples with:
• relationship conflict, disconnection and breakdown;
• betrayal, affairs, loss of trust and trauma-bonded relationships;
• pornography or sexually compulsive behaviour and its impact on partners;
• intimacy, desire, sexual anxiety, shame and communication about sex;
• overgiving, people-pleasing, boundaries and self-abandonment;
• grief, abandonment and identity following separation or relationship trauma;
• difficult family patterns that continue to affect adult relationships.
I also have particular experience supporting men with relationships, intimacy and sexual concerns.
When you come as a couple, I work with the relationship rather than taking sides. Together, we explore the cycle between you, what each person brings to it and what is needed to create greater honesty, safety and emotional connection. Couples therapy is most helpful when both partners are willing to participate honestly, even if you begin with different feelings about the relationship.
You do not need your partner or family member to attend in order to change how you experience and respond within a relationship. Individual sessions can help you understand why you become anxious, silent, overly responsible, disconnected or drawn back into patterns you know are hurting you. We can work on boundaries, communication, self-trust and the decisions ahead.
I combine careful listening with therapeutic insight, psychoeducation and practical relationship tools. Our work will be shaped around your needs rather than forcing you through a standard programme.
My first session
It is completely understandable to feel nervous about contacting a therapist, particularly when your situation involves sex, betrayal, shame or something you have never spoken about before.
You can begin by sending me a short message explaining what you would like help with. You do not need to tell me everything or know exactly what you want to work on. We can arrange a brief introductory conversation so you can ask questions and we can decide whether working together feels right.
In our first session, I will explain the working agreement so that the practical, ethical and confidential boundaries of therapy are clear. We will then explore what has brought you to therapy, the wider context and the relationships involved. You only need to share what feels manageable.
Whether you attend individually or as a couple, we will agree an initial focus together. I will listen carefully and begin helping you understand the patterns, emotions and experiences beneath the immediate difficulty. There will be space for your questions and for us to consider what you need from future sessions.
If you attend as a couple, you do not need to arrive equally certain about the relationship or with everything already worked through. A willingness to participate, listen and be as honest as you can is a helpful starting point.
You will not be pushed, blamed or judged. We will work at a pace that feels safe enough while still supporting meaningful change.
