About me and my therapy practice
Psychotherapy and Counselling for Adults, children, and Couples
I am a professionally qualified and experienced practitioner and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I provide confidential support to adults, children and couples from my consulting room in Chorleywood, Rickmansworth.
I work with people who have experienced difficulties early on in life. Perhaps anxiety and depression; addiction in the family; illness or loss; trauma of unresolved childhood experiences; secrets in the family; relationship difficulties; social upheaval; sexual identity, and learning difficulties.
These kinds of experiences affect the way we grow up, the relationships we make with others and the way we feel about ourselves.
I provide a sensitive, warm and supportive environment in which to explore past experiences and how these can impact our present. This can sometimes be experienced as long standing repetitive issues which interfere with ones life, such as getting into one unsatisfying relationship after another, a long history of feeling anxious and depressed, unresolved health problems or not being able to know or be oneself.
I believe it is through a secure and trusting therapeutic relationship that a person can gain insight and acquire a deeper understanding of themselves. Through this re-connection, a person can begin to engage in life in a more meaningful way.
This will allow for a better understanding of others, and improve the ability to make and maintain healthier relationships. To have a less critical, punishing or destructive relationship with oneself and to form better strategies for coping with stress and anxiety.
Acknowledging that this can take time, especially when confidence has been lost, when people have been hurt and let down in life. I intend to create an environment where healing and repair is possible to help restore belief and trust in the world.
Practice description
I am an experienced domestic abuse counsellor and have worked for many years empowering and supporting survivors of coercive, sexual and violent abuse. I work compassionately to help people make sense of their experiences and find their voice.
I take a holistic approach; our bodies can hold onto our life experiences as much as our mind. I work with the whole person, paying attention to the physical effects of distress as much as the emotional.
Additionally, I am also an experienced Couple/Relationship Therapist, helping to provide support to couples, and family members who are experiencing difficulties in their relationship.
Partners may find it difficult to talk to one another, or they may feel distant or not heard. Perhaps something has happened to change how they feel about one another.
Relationship therapy can provide a safe and neutral space to understand what is happening within the relationship and explore new ways of communicating and relating.
Alongside my work with adults and couples, I also work therapeutically with children and their families, supporting children who may be experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties. I work with parents to develop a deeper understanding of their child’s needs, while helping children to express and make sense of their feelings. This can create an opportunity for families to gain greater insight into the child’s experience and develop increased confidence in responding to their needs.
The quality and consistency of the therapeutic relationship lies at the heart of my practice where I believe healthy change can occur.
