About me and my therapy practice

±«ÓãÊÓƵ

Struggling to make sense of things or finding it difficult to cope?

Counselling can help you come to terms with things, and make real changes in your life.  You may find it useful to come and talk if you are dealing with difficult emotional issues, relationship difficulties or specific psychological or mental health problems.  I provide a warm, supportive environment which is non-judgmental, safe and confidential.

My approach is to work together with you to explore your issues and find some kind of resolution.  This may involve building confidence or motivation, or feeling more fulfilled or happy in life.  For others, it could mean trying to come to terms with a difficult situation.  Counselling can also assist with communication or focus in an aspect of your life.

I am an integrative psychotherapist which means I combine different approaches in therapy so that it can be tailored to your particular needs.  I feel therapy provides a supportive space where you can feel listened to and explore what is going on without judgment.  The relationship between counsellor and client can help to build on those internal resources which I believe everyone has.  In times of difficulty, it can help to talk to someone that you can trust to assist in finding those strengths within yourself in order to develop or change.

I have worked in various charities as a counsellor.  As well as working at general counselling services, I have also worked with specific groups including at Age Concern, Hampshire providing counselling for those with Alzheimers or Dementia and also for people caring for individuals with these conditions.  I have worked at Yellow Door in Southampton which provides therapy services for those who have suffered from sexual abuse.

As well as face to face sessions (dependent on COVID-19 restrictions), I am also offering other formats:

Telephone, video-call and walking therapy sessions

My first session

The first session is a chance for us to meet each other and for you to decide whether this is the right type of therapy for you. It also gives me a chance to find out a bit more about why you have decided to come to therapy at this point in your life.

About me and my therapy practice

I am an accredited integrative psychotherapist and have 9 years experience of sitting with clients. I also have varied experience of being in peer supervision groups for walking therapy; yoga therapy and with other supervisors in training. I believe supervision to not just be essential but vital in order for us to be the best psychotherapists/ counsellors we can be with our clients. To build up support and trust with other professionals so that we can develop our own skills further. My integration of modalities incorporates psychodynamic, person-centered and CBT approaches and most of my own supervision has been psychodynamic based. I therefore bring this into my own supervision groups that I facilitate and also recognise that I have a strong relational aspect to my work. In my work as a supervisor, I focus on encouraging my supervisees to be open and able to discuss their work in an environment which is nurturing and safe and without judgment. For me, the purpose of supervision is to reflect on client work together in the group or with the individual supervisee and perhaps offer a different perspective and in this way draw some of the unconscious material in the work to the surface in order to enable the client work to deepen.

Practice description

I am currently training as a supervisor at the Centre for Supervision Training and Development (CSTD) in London using the 7 eyed model of supervision.  I am currently looking for individuals or a small group to supervise.

I have a private practice at home and am happy to see supervisees in person or via zoom.

For my own supervision, I am used to 1 hour weekly supervision but I am also happy to provide 1/ 1.5 hours supervision fortnightly or monthly depending on your requirements.

My first session

I currently charge £50 for an hour and £80 for 1.5 hours, but am happy to meet supervisees initially for a free 30 minute meeting either in person or via zoom.  This will enable us to learn more about each other professionally and to find out if I am able to offer the type of supervision that you are looking for.

The first full session would be like any other supervision session, other than giving a little time at the beginning to have a conversation about our hopes and expectations of our working relationship together.  I also find it helpful to have an overview of your case load before focusing on specific client work in more depth.
