About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Chris, I'm a bit of a nerd who is into books, gaming, movies and TV shows. Being a therapist isn't just my job, it's something I genuinely love doing because I am hugely curious about people. I get to have the chance to meet others, learning more about them and what it is they are experiencing in their lives. I realised I had a true interest in people when I was younger, having the opportunity to travel and meet people from different walks of life, cultures and spiritualities.
I spend a lot of my time trying to learn and understand things, whether it's a new game, philosophical concept or how something works. As you can imagine, that can be really helpful in my role as a therapist because it's about me getting to know and understand you so that we can figure out how best to support you through what it is you are experiencing at the moment.
Therapy is a space to explore experiences and find ways to live through them with the bonus of someone by your side being there for you during that time. I approach each person as individual and explore their experiences and challenges through the lens of their relationships, embodied experiences (including long term and acquired health conditions), where there is meaning and purpose in life and finally, what it means to be an individual with agency and free will in a world that can stifle that. I recognise that different therapy models can give excellent insights to different aspects of you, so I use a few of them together, in a pluralistic way, to give us both a fully rounded understanding of yourself and your experiences.
Practice description
While I can support you through situations and processing experiences which you have had, my primary area of focus is around identity and authenticity. What is it like to be you? Who are you and how did you become who you are? How do you understand and relate to others, the world and yourself? What is your purpose and drive? So while we look at how you can manage the here and now situations you are experiencing, we can also explore the whys, whats and hows of those situations, giving you a deeper understanding so that you can experience long lasting change and have lifelong tools to manage situations and experiences which come your way.
My first session
Making the decision to speak to someone about what is happening for you is often means that meeting someone new for the first time to speak to about those things might be a little overwhelming. Hopefully, knowing what to expect might begin to prepare you for that initial meeting.
This preliminary meeting is usually between 30 and 50 minutes long and consists of us getting to meet one another and gives you the chance to tell me a little about what it is you are experiencing and hoping for support with. This time can begin to give me an idea of how you see yourself and the what it is you are currently going through.
I'll also give you a little bit of an overview of how I work, including aspects of confidentiality, with the intention that you are as well informed as you can be about what I am able to offer you before you leave the meeting. This will then give you the chance to leave and make a decision about if you feel I am someone you would like to have as a therapist.
If, after this initial session, you decide that you do not feel as though therapy is for you then that is completely fine. Likewise, if you feel you would like therapy but feel I'm not quite the right fit, I'm more than happy to give you some names of other individuals or refer you onto a specialist service. There are no obligations and I do not ask you to make a decision while you are in the room with me, nor will I chase you with emails unless we have agreed for me to contact you with further information during our initial meeting.

About me and my therapy practice
To me, therapy is a space to explore experiences and find ways to live through them with the bonus of someone by your side being there for you during that time.
I approach each person as individual and explore their experiences and challenges through the lens of their relationships, embodied experiences (including long term and acquired health conditions), where there is meaning and purpose in life and finally, what it means to be an individual with agency and free will in a world that can stifle that. With this in mind I’ve recognised that different therapy models can give excellent insights to different aspects of you, so I use a few of them together, in a pluralistic way, so there can be a fully rounded understanding of our clients and their experiences.
This translates in a similar way within my supervisory practice. I aim to create a robust and authentic relationship with you which is built on a secure, co-created, foundation. The hope is that you feel able to develop into the professional you hope to be. I am offering a space for you to reflect on yourself as the individual you are who is also a practitioner.
Practice description
For established practitioners, supervision can provide ongoing support and development, a space to reflect on challenging cases and complex dynamics. I aim to provide perspective on your work and support you in identifying any blind spots or areas for continued growth.
For those starting out, supervision is a place where confidence can be built, knowledge can be grown and courage can be found through exploration into experiences and learning of counselling and psychotherapy. Using my knowledge as a lecturer/tutor I can offer a good understanding of the academic aspects of training with insight into what is needed to demonstrate the application of theory into practice.
Fees for clinical supervision provision is £65 for 60 minutes and £75 for 90 minutes.
I do not offer a reduced rate for trainees as this takes into consideration the extra time required for completing documentation and reports which are part of the training requirement.
