About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Tess and I support people through grief, loss and unexpected life changes - helping you begin to cope in daily life and rebuild confidence to feel more in control and hopeful for the future. I have a special interest in supporting people impacted by cancer.
Grief, Loss and Change
You are not going mad, you are grieving. There's no right or wrong way to grieve - only your way.
When life changes suddenly, it can feel like everything you once knew has been taken away. If you’ve experienced a bereavement or an unexpected change in your circumstances, you might feel completely adrift, simply trying to make it through each day. Or perhaps you’re feeling overwhelmed and stunned, struggling to comprehend what has happened.
Grief is a natural response to the loss of someone close to you, whether this is a person or a beloved family pet or animal.
But did you know that you don't only grieve following a death? You can also grieve the loss of anything that matters to you:
- the breakdown of a relationship or friendship
- receiving a serious health diagnosis
- losing a job or career
- leaving the family home or a familiar place
- losing physical abilities or independence
- experiencing financial hardship
- losing family connections or emotional support
Some losses can happen suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving you feeling shocked, confused, helpless and frightened - and you may not at first recognise this as grief.
How will counselling help you?:
- Cope better. When you're no longer carrying everything alone, there is a sense of relief which helps make daily life feel more manageable.
- Build confidence. Being heard and understood helps you to trust more in yourself and your decisions.
- More in control and hopeful. Clarity helps you make changes that shift how you feel and how you live. Even the smallest of changes can bring hope for a more positive outlook.
- Handle daily stresses and challenges more easily. Therapy gives you tools and skills to support your wellbeing, even when life feels tough.
Practice description
I am an experienced counsellor and Registered Member of ±«ÓãÊÓƵ I have been in private practice since 2017.
I also work as a bereavement volunteer for a national bereavement charity.
Working with me - I have a warm, welcoming approach to my work, whilst maintaining a supportive space that is safe, confidential and professional. It takes time to build trust in any relationship, and it's important that you feel comfortable and safe with whoever you choose to work with.
How I offer counselling - I work individually with adults face-to-face, online and by telephone. I run my practice from a private space in my home in a quiet village location near Marlborough in Wiltshire.
Online or telephone sessions means that it doesn't matter whereabouts you are located in the UK. You can have sessions from the comfort of your own home or anywhere you have a private, quiet space where you feel comfortable to talk freely without being overheard or disturbed.
Short-term or Long-term - We may work together for just a few weeks agreed between us, or this may develop into something longer term. We will review our progress regularly, and work towards a final session when you feel ready.
My first session
Introductory Call - I offer a free initial 20 minute phone call on request, to establish whether we might be able to work together, bearing in mind the issue(s) you are wanting to work through, and the kind of support I can offer you.
The First Session - Our first session is an opportunity for us to talk in more depth about what is troubling you, identify your needs and hopes from counselling, and how we might work towards these. This session will also give us a sense of what its like to work together.
There is no commitment to continue beyond the first session - it's important that we feel comfortable with one another and clear about the support I can offer you for the issues that you want to work through.
I understand how daunting it can be to ask for help - it's important that you choose someone you can connect with and who feels right for you. If you would like to take that first step, you are very welcome to contact me through this confidential profile page, or via the contact form on my website.
