About me and my therapy practice
Humanistic Counsellor and psychotherapist, presently based in Chichester, West Sussex. Practicing in short and long term therapy for individuals. Face-to-face and telephone counselling offered. I am experienced in counselling on many subjects such as anxiety, depression, drugs and alcohol addiction, bullying, relationship issues, stress as well as in issues relating to low self esteem and poor self image including bereavement, sexual abuse and harassment are some of the areas I work with. I am also a Psychoeducation Therapist.
I work from a Humanistic Holistic perspective. This way of working allows the exploration of the whole person, mind, body and spirit and the connectivity which exists between them. My belief is that we all have the resources needed to heal and make change in our emotional wellbeing, this may be achieved within the therapeutic relationship which counselling offers.
My selling point is that change is certain as nothing in life remains the same and when change occurs it is essential that the client has someone alongside them as this happens. My uniqueness is to deliver and demonstrate a high level of compassionate understanding and an ability to work at client's pace and client led. I integrate other techniques and tools such as EFT, NLP, nutritional advice, coaching and more spiritual practices in my therapeutic work. I work in the field of addiction in an organisation specialising with addition issues and mental health in the National Health Service.
Feel free to call or email to book your sessions. My website is www.compassionatechangecounselling.co.uk. or www.bacp.co.uk
Practice description
My counselling discipline is based on the Humanistic value. If needed, I also apply the Empowerment model, as an educational tool which is psychoeducation and processing of any issues. My focus is to emphasize on safety and stabilization of the clients. I believe, clients as human beings have some choice and, with that, responsibility, and the key principles for a relational depth are collaboration and empowerment, which is a commitment to a democratic, non-hierarchical client - therapist relationship and an orientation towards empowering clients.
My first session
The first session can at times feel very overwhelming not knowing what a therapy session entails. As a therapist, I give the client space to explain and discuss what they want to get out of therapy and what goals they would like to achieve. I also give space to listen to any worries or concerns the client may have about therapy. I would also check if any reasonable adjustments are needed. As a person-centred therapist with Humanistic approaches, I create a suitable environment, through the congruent provision of empathy and unconditional positive regard, creating a working relational depth.

Practice description
Psychoeducation involves learning about and understanding mental health and wellbeing. It is similar to physical education, where you learn about how your body works, how to look after your body and the impacts of different strains or stressors but instead you apply this to the mind.
The goal of psychoeducation is to help clients better understand and become accustomed to live with mental health conditions, which is considered to be an essential aspect of all therapy programs. It is generally known that those who have a thorough understanding of the challenges they are facing as well as knowledge of personal coping ability, internal and external resources, and their own areas of strength are often better able to address difficulties, feel more in control of the condition(s), and have a greater internal capacity to work toward mental and emotional wellbeing. Psychoeducation is also a component of most trauma therapies. Psychoeducation is the first part of the stabilisation work which dovetails with the therapy. It also provides the foundation tools for the first stage within Three-phased trauma therapy which is stabilisation, safety and symptom management/regulation. Psychoeducation sessions empowers the clients with knowledge about how trauma affects brain and body.
Psychoeducation - the first part of the stabilisation work which dovetails with the therapy. Stabilisation is prerequisite for working through trauma. Emotional regulation skills are learned in the context of a safe, boundaries, therapeutic relationship. Build on a capitalize on health coping strategies. Stabilisation is the central focus of the psychoeducation work. The focus of psychoeducation is on learning how trauma affects the brain the the impact that this can have emotionally, physicall6y, mentally, and developing a 'toolkit' of ways to look after themselves when one is struggling.
Psychoeducation Training consists of 6 and or 8 sessions.
