About me and my therapy practice

I am an experienced ±«ÓãÊÓƵand BABCP-accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, offering online therapy to adults. I aim to provide a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where we can work together to understand what you are experiencing and what you would like to change.

I work with a range of difficulties including anxiety, low mood, worry, stress, low self-esteem, perfectionism, feeling overwhelmed and difficulties adjusting to change or uncertainty. I have a particular professional interest in neurodivergence and welcome clients who are autistic or have ADHD, as well as those awaiting assessment or beginning to explore whether neurodivergence may be relevant to their experiences.

My main therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), but I also draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness and compassion-focused approaches. I believe therapy should be tailored to the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we can develop an understanding of the patterns that may be contributing to your difficulties and explore practical, meaningful ways of moving forward.

Alongside my therapy practice, I am part of a multidisciplinary team providing specialist adult ADHD and autism assessments. I am also a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health and am involved in mental health research and education. These roles help me remain engaged with current evidence and developments in mental health care while bringing a broad perspective to my clinical work.

I currently provide all therapy online and have extensive experience of working therapeutically in this way. Many people value the flexibility and accessibility of being able to attend therapy from their own home.

Practice description

Therapy begins by developing a shared understanding of what is happening for you, how your difficulties may have developed and what may be keeping them going. We will agree together what you would like to gain from therapy and use this to guide our work.

CBT is collaborative and active. Depending on your needs, our work might involve exploring patterns in thoughts, emotions and behaviour; developing different ways of responding to worry or difficult emotions; gradually approaching situations you have been avoiding; building self-compassion; exploring perfectionism or self-criticism; or finding more helpful ways of managing uncertainty and everyday demands.

Where someone is autistic or has ADHD, I adapt therapy to their individual needs rather than assuming that standard approaches will automatically be appropriate. This may include considering sensory needs, executive functioning, masking, overwhelm, communication preferences and the impact of living for many years without recognising that you are neurodivergent.

Sessions usually last around 50–60 minutes and initially take place weekly, although this can be reviewed as therapy progresses. CBT is generally time-limited, but the number of sessions will depend on your individual difficulties, goals and circumstances. We will regularly review how therapy is progressing and decide together what is most useful.

My first session

Our first appointment is an opportunity for us to begin understanding what has brought you to therapy, what you are experiencing and what you would like help with. I will ask about your current difficulties and relevant background, but there will also be plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions and decide whether my approach feels right for you.

Together we will begin developing a shared understanding of your difficulties and discuss what therapy might involve. I may also ask you to complete some brief questionnaires before or during the early stages of therapy, where these are helpful in understanding your experiences and monitoring progress.

There is no expectation that you need to tell me everything in the first appointment. We can work at a pace that feels manageable and agree together on the priorities for our work.
