Exploring psychotherapists’ experience of the beginning stages of working with victims of coercive control - an interview based study

I am a psychotherapist and am currently completing a MSc Psychology of Coercive Control in the School of Health and Society at the University of Salford (under the academic supervision of Dr Rod Dubrow-Marshall).

This study will explore psychotherapists’ experiences of the beginning stages of working with victims of coercive control. I am motivated to undertake this research to enhance understanding, training and clinical practice of working with this client group. Additionally, this study seeks to identify key themes arising out of psychotherapists’ experiences of working with victims of coercive control when practising from different therapeutic orientations which aims to deepen understanding and inform future practice in the field of recovery.

I am approaching experienced psychotherapists (min 5 years in practice) who are accredited and have worked with adult victims (18 years and over) of coercive control to participate in this research.

Participation involves minimal risk and ensures confidentiality, all information collected will be fully anonymised. This study has been approved by the Health Taught Ethics Panel at the University of Salford.

Your participation will help to contribute valuable insights into this under-researched area.

If you are interested in participating or would like to recommend this research to a colleague, further information is set out which will also give you access to a Consent Form and a set of demographic questions should you then decide to volunteer to take part.
