When the Scope of Practice and Education (SCoPEd) is fully ¾±²Ô³Ù±ð²µ°ù²¹³Ù±ð»åÌý in February 2026 there will be a range of accreditation routes to enable BACP’s members to demonstrate their SCoPEd competences and continue their career progression with BACP.Ìý

Ensuring accessibility and widening opportunities sit at the core of these routes, which recognise the wide variety of training pathways by which our members enter the profession and then continue to develop post-qualification. The route that’s right for each member will depend on their training and experience.ÌýÌý

As a retired member, you don’t need to do anything. You won’t be represented in the SCoPEd framework as you are no longer practising. You may still be interested in what it means to our members.Ìý

Should you return to practice in the future, please contact our customer services team who will be able to advise you further.Ìý

Our members willÌý

  • continue to be recognised as a qualified, credible and ethical counselling or psychotherapy professional
  • keep all benefits of being a ±«ÓãÊÓÆµmember
  • be able to practise competences in other SCoPEd columns providing they have the right skills, knowledge, training and experience to do soÌý

ÌýWhen the SCoPEd transition period ends (Friday 30 January 2026) our membership categories will be fully aligned to the columns of the SCoPEd framework. Our:Ìý

  • Registered membership category will be aligned to column A
  • Accredited membership category will be aligned to column B
  • Senior accredited membership category will be aligned to column C
