When the Scope of Practice and Education (SCoPEd) framework is fully integrated in February 2026 there will be a range of accreditation routes to enable BACP’s members to demonstrate their SCoPEd competences and continue their career progression with ±«ÓãÊÓÆµÌý

These routes recognise the wide variety of training pathways by which our members enter the profession and then continue to develop post-qualification. Ensuring accessibility and widening opportunities sit at the core of these routes.

There will be no impact on organisational members unless you offer core training courses, accredited courses or approved qualification. Accredited courses and approved qualifications may need longer to integrate any changes into their training programmes and will have until early 2028 to complete this process. ±«ÓãÊÓÆµhas been in touch directly with accredited course providers and awarding bodies offering approved qualifications regarding this issue.

If you offer a core training course that isn't accredited or approved, you need to be aware that our membership eligibility requirements will be changing from February 2026 as follows:ÌýÌý

  • we will no longer accept 1 year courses, core training courses will need to be at least 2 years in duration and;
  • be at least level 4 (or equivalent)
  • have at least 300 hours of direct tutor contact time

Our other requirements relating to modes of teaching delivery and supervised placement hours remain the same.ÌýÌý

When the SCoPEd transition period ends (Friday 30 January 2026) our membership categories will be fully aligned to the columns of the SCoPEd framework. Our:Ìý

  • registered membership category will be aligned to column
  • accredited membership category will be aligned to column B
  • senior accredited membership category will be aligned to column C
