When the Scope of Practice and Education (SCoPEd) framework is fully integrated in February 2026 there will be a range of accreditation routes to enable BACP’s accredited members to become a senior accredited member

These routes recognise the wide variety of training pathways by which our members enter the profession and then continue to develop post-qualification. The route that’s right for you will depend on your training and experience.

Ensuring accessibility and widening opportunities sit at the core of these routes, which are designed to enable more members to demonstrate their SCoPEd competences and continue their career progression as a ±«ÓãÊÓÆµmember.

SCoPEd integration doesn’t change your membership status with ±«ÓãÊÓÆµ You will:

  • continue to be recognised as a qualified, credible and ethical counselling or psychotherapy professional
  • keep all benefits of being a ±«ÓãÊÓÆµmember
  • be able to practise competences in SCoPEd column C providing you have the right skills, knowledge, training and experience to do so
  • be able to apply to become a senior accredited member using the new routes.

When the SCoPEd transition period ends (Friday 30 January 2026) our membership categories will be fully aligned to the columns of the SCoPEd framework. Our:Ìý

  • registered membership category will be aligned to column A
  • accredited membership category will be aligned to column B
  • senior accredited membership category will be aligned to column C

If you’ve submitted an application already during the transition period, you’ll received your decision from the accreditation team once it’s been processed and assessed. You won’t need to apply again if you haven’t received your decision by February 2026.

Applying to become a ±«ÓãÊÓÆµsenior accredited member before 30 January 2026

You can apply forÌýsenior accreditation Ìýand be aligned to column C of the SCoPEd framework via our temporary senior accreditation route during the SCoPEd transition period if you meet the eligibility criteria. ³Û´Ç³Ü’l±ô need to submit your application by 12pm, Friday 30 January 2026. Applying to become a ±«ÓãÊÓÆµsenior accredited member from February 2026

As an accredited member, from February 2026 there will be four accreditation routes that will enable you to apply to become a ±«ÓãÊÓÆµsenior accredited member and aligned to column C of the SCoPEd framework.Ìý
